With the Street Parade only weeks away, you Ronsters had better get in shape for the party. And what better way than with some music, a bit of grilling and a lot of dancing in the middle of the lake? The Elisa Boat sets sail at 6.30pm with its complement of DJs and party animals on board. Just don’t be the one sprinting down the jetty trying to catch it after it’s already left.

Mexico City's music scene has been quietly producing some incredible bands in recent years, and Diles que no me maten are right at the front of the pack. Their sound drifts between krautrock, post-punk, jazz and psychedelic rock, with long, hypnotic jams that feel just as likely to wander off into improvisation as they are to hit a killer groove. If you fancy something a little different from the usual indie fare, head to Bogen F this Monday and let them transport you somewhere else entirely.

As expected, the gig listicle for August lacks the heft of some other months. I counted twenty-one shows, which is quite light. But – and there is a big but here – I didn’t list all the individual shows at Lethargy Festival, Theatre Spektakel and Winterthurer Musikfestwochen. So, if you add all of those, there should be enough live music to feed the collective soul.

I particularly recommend checking out Winterthurer Musikfestwochen. There’s always something good on, and it’s only a short train ride away.

Admittedly, Primo Piano projects appear in this newsletter rather often, and I could probably exercise a little restraint on principle. But I won’t, because their pop-ups have delivered every single time. This one is all about Mexican food: four courses, with the menu kept secret until you sit down. Dinner is served on the second floor of Gap’z on Langstrasse. One level above, Lauter Kollektiv has its studio, so there’s every chance a suitably good soundtrack will be thumping through the ceiling while you eat.
