We also have a visit from one of the most successful reggae bands of all time. Birmingham’s UB40 are playing The Hall on Wednesday. I could go through the hits and their long career, but we’d be here all day. Suffice it to say they’ve had more than 50 singles in the UK charts and have sold over 100 million records worldwide.

Netflix, Amazon, Disney… there are so many subscriptions these days that, unless you’re made of money, you have to be a little careful about how many you sign up for. Recently I let my Apple TV+ subscription lapse after reaching the end of Ted Lasso. But when I popped back onto Apple TV to watch a film, I stumbled across a wonderful series that’s been around for a while but, at least in Switzerland, hardly anyone seems to have heard of.

«Slow Horses – A Case for Jackson Lamb» sees Gary Oldman take on the eponymous role as Jackson Lamb: the cantankerous, hard-drinking, chain-smoking (and generally rather disgusting) head of a group of MI5 agents who have been sidelined for incompetence, obnoxiousness, or a healthy combination of the two.

Oldman is spectacular. The writing is fantastic too, mixing wonderfully dry British humour with sharp, fast-paced dialogue.

Apologies if you’ve already seen it (series one came out in 2022), but after asking around and finding that no one seemed to know it, I felt compelled to share.
