Museums are normally places for sensible daytime behaviour, but Zurich’s Long Night of Museums throws that idea firmly out of the window. This Saturday, loads of museums stay open late, offering exhibitions, performances, talks and plenty of other cultural distractions until as late as 2am. Even better, your CHF 25 ticket includes public transport in Zone 110 for the entire day, plus six special VBZ museum shuttle routes and a museum tram to ferry you between venues. There’s even the MS Sentosa boat if travelling by road feels a little too conventional. I’m feeling excited about taking a peek at the art collection of the Zürcher Kantonalbank. I’d love to know what treasures they’ve been hoarding.

Let’s finish the week off with a gig. This Wednesday Jake Isaak, south London born singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist brings his soulful voice and heartfelt songs to an intimate show in the X-Tra Musikcafe. Forget the lasers and smoke machines, this is about the songs, the voice and the music.

Step inside Poli Bar and you’ll feel as welcome as if you’d just returned from a long trip to find all your mates waiting for you. «D’Quartierbeiz im Chreis 3», as the Swiss would say, is a second living room for anyone who likes their beer crafty and their music a little louder. And if it’s your first visit, don’t miss the vintage pinball machines in the little room next to the bar. Recently, Poli has added another very good reason to drop by: every Tuesday, fresh sandwiches – with meat and veggie options – are served just in time for that after-work hunger.

Michael Joss wanted to become a tattoo artist when he was 15, but first did an apprenticeship as an automation technician and studied design before abandoning the detour. Today, he creates illustrative blackwork in Wiedikon, full of flora, fauna and mystery. His work will accompany you every morning in the newsletter this month. His studio, however, won’t be accompanying him for much longer: the bulldozers arrive in February 2027.
