Somewhere there is an algorithm that already knows you. But do you know your algorithm? The After The Algorithm Festival invites Zurich to find out. From Friday until Sunday 29th, artists, researchers and curious humans and maybe even the odd bot take over venues like Kulturhaus Helferei and Karl der Grosse. The festival features AI art, workshops, panels and even an AI escape room. I’m particularly fascinated by the «Decoding Bias» piece. The mission: cut through the hype and talk seriously about machines, society and our digital future. Nerdy? Yes. Fascinating? Also yes.

Friday - Sun 29th, After The Algorithm Festival, Various Locations

Having seen the state of British cities on a Saturday night, stand‑up feels almost impossible. Luckily, The Biggest Comedy Kiss brings three of the UK’s sharpest comedians to Zürich. Jamali Maddix, Laura Smyth and Red Richardson take the Volkshaus stage this Saturday with a triple headliner of fearless jokes, sharp observations and laughs that hit long after the show ends.

Can you remember colours? Can you recall the exact hue of a favourite dress or a much-loved T-shirt? Is the deep red of a loved one’s back, after they forgot the factor 50, burned into your memory? Then this (pointless, I must admit) game by Lightspark Design is for you. What Dialed asks you to do is remember a colour, and it then rates you on how well you recall it. You get five different colours to try.

Play a solo game, invite friends for a challenge, or take on the world. Whatever you do, it’s minutes of fun for all, and I was particularly amused by the motivational messages it doesn’t give you.

Nothing makes Zurich feel more like Tokyo than cherry blossom season. Every year, I look forward to this time, which satisfies my wanderlust without the need for a long flight or jet lag.

What struck me most in Tokyo was how entire families gather for picnics in the parks, sharing meals beneath the delicate pink blossoms. Shoes are neatly lined up at the edge of the blanket while everyone enjoys homemade treats from their Bento boxes.

In Zurich, you can easily recreate a Tokyo-style picnic with family and friends: Belvoir, Rieter, and Patumbah Parks all boast lush magnolias or cherry blossoms and plenty of green space for the first picnic of the year. And since few of us fill our own Bento boxes, a quick stop at your favourite food provider will do the trick.
