At 9 a.m. this morning, i put the kettle on to make a cup of tea and, having responsibly added a teabag to the mug, decided to do a few chores while the kettle did its thing. Twenty minutes later, i returned to discover the water was lukewarm and utterly unfit for tea, so i put the kettle on again and got distracted by a few more bits and bobs.

Can you guess what happened next? Of course you can. I finally drank my cup of tea at around 2 p.m. It was… fine.

The upside? I was incredibly productive.
The downside? I may have set a new personal record for the most inefficient production of a single cup of tea. Suffice to say, the Ron Orp Tea Rooms will not be opening any time soon, pending a full internal review of kettle-related procedures.

My question for you lovely Ronsters is this: is it just me, or does anyone else take five hours to make a cup of tea? Or have I gone stark, staring mad? Whilst you are pondering these questions, have a fantastic weekend and...

A touring exhibition arrives at the Museum für Gestaltung this week, starting tonight. Entitled More Than Human – Designing with Nature, it comes to us from the Design Museum in London and explores ways in which design can go beyond human needs. In short, it shows how art, technology and design can benefit the environment. As I said, the exhibition starts today and will be on display right through until May. Pay ‘em a visit!

Thurs 7pm - May 31st, Museum für Gestaltung, Ausstellungsstrasse 60, 8005

It seems like ages since I included a gig in the newsletter, but I had to tell you about the visit of US artist East Forest, who will entertain you at Papiersaal with his combination of ambient, neo-classical and electronic music. Will it be a bit trippy? Well, seeing as his latest recording is entitled «Lovingly: A Soundtrack for the Psychedelic Practitioner, Vol. III» and his most recent documentary film release was called «Music for Mushrooms», I’m guessing… yes.

Sunday 7pm, Papiersaal, Alte Sihlpapierfabrik, Kalanderplatz 6, 8045

A lot is happening in February. I counted 93 shows this month! And of course, that means there’s something to float everybody’s musical boat. From electronica to funk to punk to singer-songwriter, Zürich has the lot.

To The Shows

As I was watching the SRF news last night, a segment came up on a familiar location. You may remember that a few months ago I wrote about a wonderful exhibition displaying the works of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Well, the Fondation Beyeler in Basel has another amazing exhibition coming up, this time featuring the works of French post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne.

This will be the first exhibition at the museum dedicated to Cézanne and will feature works from the later phase of his career, covering themes such as still lifes, landscapes and bathers (oh là là). You do need to book a time slot in order to visit, but the advantage is that the museum doesn’t feel too crowded, allowing you to enjoy the works of this great artist without someone (me) taking a selfie in front of them. The exhibition runs until the end of May, so there’s plenty of time to book a trip to the town on the Rhine.

Rons Tip: Take advantage of the Art’n’Rail offer with SBB. They offer discounts on admission and rail tickets.
