Another open-air film offering for you lovely Ronsters, this time by the cooling waters of the Limmat, courtesy of Filmfluss. The cinema actually opened its doors yesterday evening but, as the film was in German, i gave it a miss. Filmfluss gets the projector running tonight with the 2024 film Thelma, and then runs a programme every Wednesday to Sunday at the Unterer Letten Badi until 26 July. Just make sure you check the language before you go. Several films are in English, some are in German and, rather unusually for Zurich, quite a few are in French.

If you haven’t made it to one of Zurich’s «Quartierfests» so far this year, then never fear. There’s still time. This weekend, GZ Wollishofen hosts the appropriately titled Openair Wollishofen, a festival with one particularly fantastic advantage: it’s right by the lake. Can’t stand the heat? Go for a quick dip. The line-up features 12 live acts, split evenly between Friday and Saturday, and wraps up on Saturday night with Scottish singer-songwriter Argyle. And by the way, it’s free!

Chiang Mai is the cultural and tourism hub of northern Thailand. Over the past few decades, the region has undergone a remarkable transformation towards more sustainable tourism, placing a much stronger emphasis on the ethical treatment and welfare of its elephants.

Despite this progress, there is still a shortage of facilities providing specialist medical care for these animals. That’s why the Tong Bai Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign to build a dedicated hospital for elephants in need. It’s a chance to support the welfare and health of these gentle giants and help ensure they receive the care they deserve and so desperately need. 

Summer finally seems to be here, and the city has a lot to offer – from sport and culinary delights to music and dancing. But when September rolls around and you find yourself strolling through Knabenschiessen, it might already be too late.
