Tuesdsay: Youssou N’Dour is playing Kaufleuten and i have tickets

Who could forget 7 Seconds, the classic collaboration, (and worldwide hit,) between Senegalese singer Youssou N’Dour and Neneh Cherry? Well… if you’re too young to remember it, you’ll have to take my word for it — it’s an absolute choon. Anyhoo, one half of that iconic duo is performing at the Kaufleuten this Tuesday, and I have two pairs of tickets to give away. Drop me an email and let me know why you simply must see the show.

Last year (much to the annoyance of some people), I renamed the square outside the Ron-Cave and bestowed upon it the title Ron Orp Platz. There was a sign and everything. The square had it all – a couple of bars, a nice deli – but a place to have breakfast was noticeably absent.

Well, that’s all about to change, as a new café is opening a literal stone’s throw away. On Wednesday 23rd April, Café Irma opens her doors for the first time and, although details are a bit thin on their website, I can’t wait to give the new joint a try. See you in there, maybe?

Are we fortunate in Europe that we can throw away tons of food? Or is it just plain stupid? I’m pretty certain it’s a bit of both. Fortunately Foodsave Market are doing their bit to alleviate these problems by selling surplus fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices. The market takes place every Wednesday in the FOGO-areal which is nearby to Altstetten but is only open for a brief window - from 4pm until 6pm. But if food waste is an important issue for you it’s worth the visit.
