Have you ever visited Africa? I visited several times and found the west coast of Africa to be an absolute delight. The people, the food but most of all, the music. If this sounds interesting to you you don’t need to head to the Flughafen. Stay on the train and visit Afro-Pfingsten in Winterthur this weekend. The festival started yesterday but the programme really gets into full swing tonight with music and African culture right the way across the city.

How would you describe Keziah Jones’ music? There’s a bit of blues, some funk, a touch of soul — all wrapped up in an unmistakable African vibe. And let’s not forget his soulful vocals and explosive guitar playing. But don’t just take my word for it — why not check him out for yourself? He’ll be performing at the Kaufleuten next Wednesday.

Noah Liechti aka Noé Lumière is right at the centre of the illustrator scene: he is co-publishing director of the comic magazine STRAPAZIN, has founded a satire zine and regularly draws caricatures for the Zurich student newspaper. In the interview, he told me what else he enjoys, (spoiler: milking goats, for example,) and why his crazy breakfast habit might upset the King of England. (Although i’m not quite sure whether I should believe him here.)

Someone once asked me if I could play The Maple Leaf Forever, to which I replied, «I get tired after about three hours.»

Why am I talking such nonsense? Well, it seems there’s a bit of a Canadian wave in Zurich this month, with quite a few bands from north of the border gracing our stages. I counted 34 gigs this month — which, for Zurich, is a quiet one. I suppose it’s about quality, not quantity.
