Caliente! is back – and it’s bringing the heat to Zürich from 4th to the 6th of July. Imagine tropical vibes, sizzling street food, mojitos in hand and non-stop Latin beats from salsa to reggaeton. Ten stages, top DJs, live bands, samba grooves and a colourful crowd shaking up Kasernenareal. It’s not just a party – it’s Europe’s biggest Latin bash right in the heart of the city. Come hungry, come ready to dance, and let the barrio spirit take over. Viva la fiesta!

Zurich’s powerful women? Maybe Mentona Moser, the founder of the Swiss Communist Party? Or how about Pipilotti Rist, the visual artist. I’m not sure who will be on the list for zuerich.com's «Zurich’s Powerful Women Tour» but i’m pretty sure it’s going to be fascinating. Tours start this Wednesday and as the Euro’s are in town there will be a focus on some of the women players. The first tour in English starts is on Wednesday evening but, if you are lucky enough to have tickets to the England vs Netherlands match,  there is another opportunity on Wednesday 23rd July.

I’ve put together a list of local festivals, but what’s happening across the country? Switzerland boasts a plethora of fantastic open-air events and festivals, including the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival (don’t worry – there’s hardly any jazz these days) and outstanding hip-hop festivals like Royal Arena and Frauenfeld. Add Switzerland’s stunningly photogenic backdrop, and you’ve got something truly special. Here’s my ultimate list of festivals taking place over the coming months.

The Le Mur café used to have a sign listing the first twenty countries in the world to give women the vote, with Australia sitting proudly at number one. But was it accurate? A complaint made about two decades ago by the café’s current proprietor, Jasmine, led to Australia being crossed out and replaced with Aotearoa (the Māori name for New Zealand), and her love affair with the tiny kiosk bloomed.

I must admit, I chanced upon the café as I was riding home. Hearing some cool records being played, I parked my bike and discovered the tiny, kinda chaotic but totally charming café — and also sat down to chat with Jasmine, the half-Irish, and very proud half-Māori, proprietor.
