For swimmers who love Landiwiese, this week’s a bit of a wash-out. But for arts lovers? Absolute heaven! From Thursday until the end of August,  Landiwiese transforms into the buzzing hub of the Theatre Spektakel, showcasing artists from every corner of the globe. We’re talking over 200 performers from as far away as São Paulo and Adelaide. There’s far too much to list here, so dive into their brilliantly clear programme — complete with handy filters — to find the acts that float your boat. Not in the mood for a show? No problem. Come for the lakeside vibes, stay for the drinks, the food, and that unbeatable summer-evening atmosphere.

Question: How many times is Tom Cruise going to achieve these impossible missions before it is realised that they are simply improbable? Blatant false advertising. Anyhoo, if you haven’t been to an open-air cinema this summer, you are running out of time. But you do still have time, as Bloom Cinema is opening its doors in Europaallee this Friday. Bloom’s programme is more blockbuster than arthouse, so don’t expect low-budget independent films, but I still fancy checking out the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. For lovers of action, there is Brad Pitt’s F1®: The Movie and the aforementioned offering in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

I mainly know La Chaux-de-Fonds for the climbing and hiking opportunities around it – and, of course, for the watchmaking industry. But the town has more to offer. One example is Le Jungle Coffee, a cultural café with delicious food, creative cocktails, and live music (the Disco Friday videos of people dancing are absolutely infectious).

Like many cultural venues, Jungle is also struggling with funding – despite (or perhaps because of) its fair prices. To be able to offer food in the evenings and to expand storage and equipment, a crowdfunding campaign is underway. The text about it is entirely in French, but that’s really all you need to know to take part. And who knows – maybe an event at Jungle could be a good excuse for a little trip to the French-speaking part of Switzerland?

If you ask me what the best remedy for wanderlust is (when you can’t travel at the moment), my answer is clear: Find a way to bring the distant places to you – ideally onto your plate. Today, and every Tuesday in August, you have the chance to dive into the flavours of Mexican cuisine. Of course, you could simply sit down in a Mexican restaurant, but I have an even better suggestion: Join the cooking event at Primo Piano and learn to make delicious tacos, tortillas, and matching salsas yourself.
