Is there a little «Quartier» or «Platz» fest this weekend? Of course there is! But this one feels a little bigger than many summer festivals. The Niederdorf is hosting the Dörflifäscht, and with its multiple squares and streets, the celebrations spill across a large part of the city. Is there food? Absolutely. Music? Naturally. Drinks? Always. Gather your mates and enjoy a weekend of fun, fun, fun!

Lovers of short rail journeys and animation, rejoice! This Monday sees the start of Fantoche, Switzerland’s top animation festival, which takes place just a short train ride away (see what I did there?) in Baden. The festival, which unlike an alarming number of events, has a clear website in English, brings over 300 animated shorts and features from across the globe, plus engaging panels, masterclasses and exhibitions. The first thing that grabbed my attention on the programme? A film titled «Lesbian Space Princess». That alone feels worth the trip.

As summer draws to a close and the weather turns colder, things are heating up in the gig department. After last month’s poor offering, we are back up and running with a solid 30 shows to check out throughout September. If you want to be at the cutting edge, make sure you hit the Radar Festival, which takes place on the 13th and 14th. But whatever your musical taste, there’s something happening in the city for you.

I love summer in the city, but every now and then it gets a bit too hot, even for me. That’s when I head for the hills. Not just for the mountains and lakes (though they’re great, of course), but for spots where nature meets a bit of art—sometimes you spot it, sometimes you don’t, but that’s all part of the fun.
