Am I well designed? Well, if you consider design as function + intention + aesthetics, then no. I barely function, have questionable intentions, and I don’t exactly look great. But if you want to see truly good design, Zurich Design Weeks kicks off today—showcasing some of the very best in the design world. So, what’s on? Loads. There are the Landmarks (all listed on the website, BTW), the Design Biennale, and the fascinating Poster Safari you can follow on Insta, as well as tons more cool stuff. My top picks? «Circularity Starts with Design» and «Circular Design Rules» — a smart look at how design can shape a sustainable future.

Thurs - Sun 14th, Zurich Design Weeks, Various Locations

Another trip around Sol (that’s the Sun, if you didn’t know), and another annual event appears on the calendar. This time it’s the Lange Nacht der Zürcher Museen, which kicks off at 6 pm on Saturday and grants access to most of Zurich’s museum exhibits with a single ticket. Way to much stuff to discuss so check out what’s on here and don’t forget to buy the ticket online, as it also allows you to travel around the city within Zone 110 and gives you access to the MS Sentosa, which can take you by water to locations along the lake. My favourites: Archeological Windows. I’d love to check out the tunnels under the city or the zoo at night! Sounds so cool!

I love Ramen so you can probably imagine my excitement that a new Ramen joint has opened, right off Zypressenstrasse. The Japanese chain, Machida Ramen has locations on the Asian side of the Pacific rim, on the East coast of the US and they’ve chosen little old Zurich for their first European adventure. Lucky us, eh?

Cynics might now say: Sure, it's Zurich—because people here are willing to dig deep into their pockets for «authentic» cuisine. More optimistic souls counter that it's due to this city's genuine enthusiasm for Japanese cuisine.

But what’s it like? I can honestly say it’s the best Ramen that i've had outside of Japan with loads of different varieties for every taste (Including vegan varieties.) I loved it! But it wasn’t just the Ramen. Fried stuff is always good but i especially enjoyed the fried chicken with homemade mayonnaise. And, of course, they serve rice dishes and other classics such as gyoza. 

Good To Know: The restaurant doesn’t do reservations. Just rock up and enjoy but expect a little bit of a wait at peak times. 

Good To Know 2: Like whiskey? Machida Shoten loves a highball, created using Japanese whiskeys.
