The agenda is slightly shorter this week, owing to the fact that so many events in the city are gigs—and I put together a pretty comprehensive list last week. Does your toaster only know one setting – «incinerate»? Are the heels of your favourite socks starting to fall apart? And did that souvenir from your holiday not quite survive the journey home? The skilled helpers there sew, glue and solder anything that can be fixed. Just drop by, get a free repair assessment and pick up your favourite item almost as good as new. With a three-month guarantee (which is more than you get with some new purchases). I’ve even come up with a fitting slogan: Don’t despair – take your repairs to the HB!

If you are English and see the word «Char» over the door of a new establishment, you might think it is a tea shop. But no – «Char», the new restaurant on Zurlindenstrasse, takes its name from the process of cooking with charcoal, the word itself being derived from «charred».
Charcoal is at the heart of the restaurant’s concept: many of the dishes served are grilled over it, from the signature flatbreads to the chicken wings. The portion sizes are designed to suit both large and small appetites (but after a look at the menu, I’d definitely recommend bringing a large one).

Salt & pepper, gin & tonic, peanut butter & jelly and…er…beans & toast. The best foods always have a side kick and what combination could be better that the classic, «Moules et Frites.» It is said that you should only eat mussels in months with an ‘R’ and, after checking the spellings, it means we are good to go. Here comes my ultimate, legendary and spectacular moules et frites guide for autumn!

Oktoberfest is a thing of the past, and either you drank far too much beer, or you were so busy drinking it as part of your daily routine that you missed it entirely. Either way, beer is a wonderful thing, so I’ve come up with some alternative ways of incorporating it into your life, maybe as a hobby, maybe in song, or even maybe as part of your daily ablutions.
