The Best Cheese Shops In Town
Chäs Chäller
Chäs Chäller offers high quality delicacies from the region, and everything can be tasted. I find it hard to resist the two year old Gruyère, matured for extra time. And if you are already here, you might as well pick up a portion of the Old Town fondue blend, made to a secret recipe from the 1950s.
Chäs Chäller, Niederdorfstrasse 46
Tue – Sat 11.30am – 6pm
Chäs und Brot
Standing in front of the generous cheese counter at Chäs und Brot and desperately trying to make a choice can make you feel a little dizzy. It does not help that the selection is not only vast, but exceptionally delicious. A piece of Testun al Barolo always ends up in the bag, though.
Chäs und Brot, Mutschellenstrasse 197
Mon – Fri 7.30 am – 6.30 pm / Sat 7.30 am – 4.00 pm
Ingrid’s Gourmeggli
Ingrid’s Gourmeggli, Hegibachstrasse 108
Mo/Di/Do/Fr 8.00 – 12.30 & 15.00 – 18.30 / Sa 8.00 – 14.00
Welschland
You will find not only charm, but also all kinds of delicacies from Romandie in this lovely neighbourhood shop. «La Religieuse», the house fondue blend, is a strong contender for «Best Fondue in Town». The wide range of raclette cheeses from the French speaking part of Switzerland is also particularly good.
Welschland, Zweierstrasse 56
Mon – Sat 7.00 am – 9.00 pm

The British Cheese Deli
Yes, Switzerland has an abundance of excellent cheese. That does make it a little painful to resort to British alternatives. But there is simply nothing wrong with a mouldy Stilton paired with a sweet port. Ever. And, to be honest, I do like Cheddar too.
British Cheese Deli, Limmatstrasse 231 (Markthalle im Viadukt)
Mon – Sat 9.00 am – 8.00 pm
Tritt Käse
…but there is not only British cheese at the Viadukt. Over the past 30 years, Tritt Käse has developed from a small, craft run alpine dairy into a market stall and finally a dedicated cheese shop. The selection includes only products that preserve centuries old traditions, while also feeling fresh and innovative.
Tritt Käse, Limmatstrasse 231 (Markthalle im Viadukt)
Mon – Fri 9.00 am – 8.00 pm / Sat 8.00 am – 8.00 pm

Bachsermärt Kalkbreite
I love the cheese counter at Bachsermärt. Not only because of Dolly, the almost liquid sheep’s cheese, but above all for the countless varieties of raclette cheese on offer and the excellent house fondue blend. Always worth a visit.
Bachsermärt Kalkbreite, Badenerstrasse 171
Mon – Fri 8.00 am – 8.00 pm / Sat 9.00 am – 6.00 pm
Chäslaube
Possibly the cheese shop with the longest history. For over 100 years, exquisite cheese has been sold across this counter, and with that much experience, you are guaranteed highly knowledgeable advice. There is now also a cheese subscription, delivering different quantities and types of cheese to your home at varying intervals.
Chäslaube, Seefeldstrasse 27
Mon – Fri 8.00 am – 6.30 pm / Sat 9.00 am – 4.00 pm
Chäsegge Oerlikon
You can also find exquisite cheese in Oerlikon, at Ziegler Delikatessen. More than 200 varieties are on offer here, hard, semi hard and soft, local and international, in different stages of maturity and flavour profiles. A true paradise for cheese lovers.
Zieglers Chäsegge, Welchogasse 5
Mon – Fri 8.00 am – 6.00 pm / Sat 7.15 am – 4.00 pm
