Caressoma | Fewer sport injuries by health monitoring

Caressoma | Fewer sport injuries by health monitoring

Caressoma is a MedTech start-up focused on injury prevention and recovery support. It grew in the heart of Zurich entrepreneurs’ meeting centre “Impact Hub Zürich” and now, a year later, is heading east to represent Switzerland at the Global Entrepreneur Challenge taking place at the Virginia Tech University. Do you like sports? Oh, you are an athlete yourself? Awesome! And you are not alone! In fact, 80% of the population play or cheer every weekend for their favourite team without ever missing a game. At Caressoma, we love sports, and that’s why we want to support every sportswoman or -man with more than just our spirit! Whether it's football or hockey, basketball or any other sport, the biggest problem is the high number of injuries. We have found impressive numbers that show that 40% of these injuries can actually be avoided! But at the moment, the right medical instrument to do so, is lacking. This is how we came up with the idea of building a medical device to help athletes monitoring their health state.  Of course, our concept is the result of intensive market research, dinner meetings, and (as with any successful start-up ;)) long discussion evenings at the bar.About a year ago, I attended a networking evening (Ladies Drive Bargespräche) in Lausanne. Here I heard this incredibly intelligent young woman speaking about her idea to build a massage robot. Given my background as an osteopath, Sophia immediately attracted my attention. She promptly gave me a feeling of respect, trust and admiration. My perception was further reinforced by her incredible story: Sophia decided to end her career as a researcher in quantum field theory physics and take a risk to help others. For sure, not an ordinary person! We had a short conversation that same evening, the first dinner meeting a few weeks later and yes, the rest is now history... During the first few months of working together, we found out that there was no suitable market for a massaging robot. Not a single physio- or manual therapist - who likes his/her work - liked the idea of being replaced by a robot. Also, potential customers weren't too excited about a software-driven mechanical hand that pushes and pulls the tension out of their aching muscles. After a few more brainstorming sessions, we switched from symptomatic treatment to prevention. In this way, we can effectively improve the lives of many athletes. What we found was a new, even better, goal: to help athletes reach their maximum potential when it comes to physical performance.Caressoma, now one year later, consists of 4 employees and a member of the advisory board. Michelle and Marianna strengthen the team with their general knowledge of service engineering, prototyping skills and image analysis. We are working together on this highly innovative ultrasonic device, SonIt, which is expected to be ready for production by mid-2021. From that day on, athletes will be able to measure their muscles on a daily basis to keep track of their state of health. What is not possible now, will then be possible: an actual monitoring of the muscular condition of the athlete. Thanks to SonIt, prevention will be no longer a dream, it will become a standard in the daily training schedule of every sports team, striving for better injury prevention and the desire to improve the performance of their athletes. Just as we, at Caressoma, strive for a more stable healthy environment to become better together cause that’s what makes a good team, the best team.Stay informed and follow us on our trip to Virginia. As a 26-year-old Belgian osteopath that loves sports, Jana strives daily to examine and treat my patients with a holistic vision and approach. That's why she is 100% behind Caressoma and everything it stands for; to CARE gently with CARESS for our SOMA, the body.
