Apps that I usually use in China: I am an international student from China. I grew up in China. I recommend some apps that I often use in China, which may be helpful for your traveling. Welcome to China! 1) 支付宝(Alipay): Similar to Twint.ch. You can easily pay with this app without the need to keep cash on you. By the way, currently almost no one uses cash in China anymore. Paying with cash only can make traveling difficult. 2) 携程旅行: You can buy train tickets, airplane tickets, scenic spot tickets, and book hotels on this app. This app needs to be used with 支付宝 or 微信. 3) 美团: You can find nearby restaurants and browse their reviews with this app. You can also order takeout. Delivery fees on this app are usually 1 CHF or less. 4) 高德地图: Similar to a combination of Google Maps and Uber. Taking an online taxi is a common way of traveling in China. The price of a ride is usually less than CHF 1 per km. 5) 微信(WeChat): Similar to WhatsApp. Almost in every Chinese people's smart phone will download this app. In addition to sending messages to friends, this app is also a small program platform. Each small program is a lightweight app. you can use the small program to buy subway tickets, buy tickets to scenic spots, go through immigration procedures and so on. 6) 小红书: Similar to Instagram or twitter. You can easily find travel tips on this app. You can also ask for help on this app. Attaching the right tags can increase the exposure of your post. Last but not least, please make good use of your translation app. Most Chinese can't speak fluent English, and social apps are in Chinese. If you need to ask for help, try to find a young person. Because they are more likely to speak English. English is a foreign language that is mandatory for the Chinese to learn, while German is not. If you communicate in German, it will be more difficult to get a positive response. Hope you have a nice trip in China! (As for the language, I recommend you learn Mandarin. Most of the people from mainland China speak Mandarin.)
