Devil's music

The only thing that is really evil about the band Beelzebub, is their devilishly good music. A bit fiery, a bit wicked and I’m sure these blues-rock boys must have made a dubious deal at a crossroads at some point in their past. If you like your guitars to growl and your lead singers to growl even more then get down to Mars Bar for a taste of the underworld.
Thursday 9 pm, Mars Bar
Digital charity

The 21st century allowed the Warholian revolution of user-generated entertainment to come to pass. From reality TV to YouTube to digital cameras, the inmates have truly taken over the asylum, and Viva la revolución, says I. Rio Bar have asked 10 people to display their hidden talents and mobile phone photos as part of their Klick No.1 – the handyfoto charity gallery. You will be able to vote for your favourite with the winner receiving a prize, as well as bid for it in an end of evening auction. All proceeds from the auction will be given to the Denk an Mich charity.
Friday 5.30 pm, Rio Bar
All aboard!

Ahoy there, shipmates. Before closing the doors for its annual summer holiday the good ship Cabaret plans to set sail for one last voyage to the Isle of Bass via Party Bay. Your captains for the evening are the dj collective The Birdz, so even if my shipping metaphors are a little too much, you can rest easy that you are in good hands when it comes to the music for the night. So with a yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum I promise to stop this sailor speak and enjoy this last Friday at Cabaret for a few weeks.
Friday 11 pm, Cabaret
All-in-one

If you're looking for a one-stop shop for all your entertainment needs on Saturday evening you should try Warehouse, a one-day only project at the former paper mill along the Sihl. They have brought together a whole range of stuff including a flea market and designer goods with some excellent designers on show, an open stage with djs playing throughout, art installations, sports events including the intriguingly named DIY Monkey Golf, an open air cinema, bbq and special bars. If this isn't enough to get you excited, entrance is free and the party goes on until someone switches off the power.
Saturday 4 pm, Sihlpapierhallen Manegg, Allmendstrasse 125
Festival fever

Zurich has many openair festivals happening over the summer, most of them are small, free and have a good line up of local talent. This weekend it's the turn of Wipkingen to show what they can offer. The line up at Openair Wipkingen is usually themed around the more electro/alternative genres and this year is no exception. Bands like Electrik Gossip and Le Dompteur show that whilst playing in front off 30,000 people at mainstream openair festivals is ok for some, you can still create great music for people to lie in the grass to at a more intimate level as well. And entry is free.
Saturday 3 pm, Wipkinger Park, Breitensteinstrasse 19
Beats up from down under

Cut Copy are an Australian electro-pop band whose last album went to number 1 in Australia and now, with their new album produced by Animal Collective and Deerhunter producer Ben Allen, it looks as if they want to branch away from their antipodean neighbourhood. I’ve always thought their electro sound and harmonic vocals were the perfect soundtrack to a summer’s day and now with them playing live at Stall 6 next week we can all enjoy the sunshine sounds of an Aussie heat wave.
Tuesday 7.30 pm, Stall 6

Picnic in the park

Whenever the summer arrives there are 2 classic options for eating outdoors – bbq and picnic. Bbq's are, of course, great but sometimes you need that something a little more special and/or romantic. This is where the Museum Rietberg can help. They will supply you with a picnic basket filled with your pre-ordered goodies, a picnic blanket and even a Patolli game set. Rietberg Park is a green jewel in the heart of Zurich and the perfect venue for some very civilised, and did i mention romantic, picnic-ing.
Museum Rietberg, Gablerstrasse 15, 8002
Pedal power

If you ride a bike in Zurich you know that we are pampered pretty well with cycle paths, sign-posted routes and parking spots. Outside of Europe things get a lot worse, especially in a city like Guadalajara. Its inhabitants have been fighting for years for bicycle paths in the manic traffic, but until now their demands have remained unheeded. Which means, as usual whenever government gets in the way of youth, the youth fix things themselves. See the potential of people pedal power here.
Ron's favourite song

I'm not really sure what's going on in the video or even what the song's about but once the chorus of Alex Winston's Sister Wife gets in you head, you'll be stuck with it. Enjoy.
