Zurich (EN) : Zurich, 28.7.2011: I*Zurich, happy Helvetia & bye for now

Dear friends,
The Porn Orp Party was a lot of fun. Thank you all for coming. And special thanks to: Das Pferd, Seefeld Razzia, Kelstroem & Lobi Rodio. On my website, you find some pictures. Next week, I’ll be away, searching for the summer, so you’ll have to do a week without me. But I’m back in time to give you tips for Streetparade.
Give my love to the city, Ron

Music takes over

From Thursday until 6 August, six bands from Zurich get a wild card to perform a concert under the open sky at the location of their choice within the city. Within this series called StadtsommerDoppelbock trifft Giigämaa – which freely translated means that the formation Doppelbock meets man with fiddle. They’ll shake hands under the Kornhausbrücke, where usually skaters meet, for a  modern interpretation of Swiss folk and yodel.
Thursday 9-11 pm, Kornhausbrücke
Warm your heart

On Friday, Stall 6 will be closed but there’s still a party taking place. It’s in the small entrance hall of the venue. So make sure to get there before midnight, if you want to fit in to dance to djs Lexx, Dejan, Jauss, Peak and Das Blenden. Nice line-up, free entry and with the crowd in this small space, you certainly won’t get cold.
Friday 10 pm, Stall 6 entrance
Skate along

Are you a good dancer? Are you a good dancer on roller skates? If you don’t know, you’ll get the chance to try it out this Friday at X-tra. You can get the skates there for free. I hope they have some in disco colours, as djs Pat and Tom Orrow will play the best disco hits and transform X-tra in today’s Studio 54.
Friday 10 pm, X-tra
Once upon a time

My favourite coffee bar during university turns thirty. As the locale is spacious but not quite big enough for the large party they want to host, they move their open air bar and concerts to Hirschenplatz. And if the news I heard are correct it’ll be going from Saturday night until Sunday at midnight. Welcome to the thirties-club, Café Zähringer! If you pefer to party indoor, then head to Hive. They celebrate 5 years Rakete.
Saturday 6 pm, Hirschenplatz
Saturday 11 pm, Hive
Dancing for the sun

I know I’m repeating myself but when it’s hot, I find Seebad Enge one of the most beautiful places in Zurich. This Sunday, they plan on bringing summer back. You have the choice between the left side with dj Sabaka and grill, and the right side with The Clementimes & dj Knox. Join them for their sun-dance. You won’t have to go to work the next day as it’s Switzerland’s national day. And entry is for free.
Sunday 7 pm, Seebad Enge

Happy Helvetia

Welcome to Fridji Island! Motherland invites you to celebrate Switzerland’s national day on Fritschiewiese with cosmopolitan djs like El Gayo Negro from Mexico. Fridji Island also has a radio station which plays tunes from the visitors’ ipods and mobile phones. Music, food, entertainment – sounds like a good place to be on a free Monday. So happy bank holiday!
Monday 2-6 pm, Fritschiwiese
Painted food

Food makes me happy and art makes me happy. Therefore, They Draw & Cook make me very happy as the site contains a large collection of illustrated recipes. As well as a food blog. The collection is also available in a printed version. The perfect gift to inspire you beloved ones. I especially like giving cookbooks to people who in return invite me to dinner. Give it a try, it works most times.
I*Zurich - An Expat's Perspective

As promised, here is the second of what i hope will be an irregular and irreverent series about what happens when an expat and Zurich try to embrace.

Does Zurich Have its Granny Panties in a Wad?
I like to avoid stereotyping, generalizing, stereolizing and generaltyping. I grew up in a place where all men and women were created equal and to never rely on first impressions. I was taught to never judge a book by its cover and to above all, respect my elders. Unfortunately, some elders of the female persuasion have made respecting them rather difficult... more
