Zurich (EN) : Zurich, 28.3.2013: The end is near, micro disco & happy Easter

Dear friends,
I wish you a happy, happy Easter time. May the Easter bunny bring you a lot of chocolate, sunshine and free time. Just a reminder: Most shops will be closed on Friday and Monday.
Give my love to the city, Ron

Femme fatale

Apartment 22 has a mixed platter of delights to offer you tonight at their Art 22 night, all with a seductive feminine touch. For starters, Moran Haynal will be displaying some of his kaleidoscopic female inspired artwork, followed by design duo Lyn Lingerie showing off some of their latest sexy collection. Burlesque dancer Roxy Diamond will also be there performing, and the night will be rounded off by djs Siegair and Creaminal. If you want to get in touch with your feminine side, it seems she’s hanging out at Apartment 22.

Thursday 9 pm, Apartment 22

Small is beautiful

When it comes to certain things, and despite kindly whispers to the contrary, size is clearly important. But there are some other things where size really doesn’t matter, and one of those is the Rio Bar on Friday evening. Hailed as the smallest disco in the city, you’ll be able to dance, order a drink and go to the toilet all within the space of a spin and shuffle on the dance floor. It’s one way to stay warm and cozy as winter refuses to leave us alone. Djs Schesche and Klara Himmel will be supplying the music and admission is free.
Friday 10 pm, Bar Rio

Time tripping

If you feel that the 80’s were a time of great music and fashion, plus you need an excuse to finally wear those neon headbands and leggings you’ve had hidden away, then the party label Double Dip may have made all your time travel dreams come true. On Saturday night at Remise, A fine selection of djs will be playing all your favourite 80’s pop and mixing them up with some current electroclash. They’ve even tried to keep the drink prices and entrance to an 80’s level.
Saturday 11 pm, Remise

Green binki

Adam Green and Binki Shapiro have been floating around the poposphere as separate entities for some time now but recently they collided and have collaborated on a great duets album. The music they’ve made is sad, sweet and mellow and has that sugar/sandpaper mix that the best Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood records had. If you want to see them they’ll be playing at Mascotte on Sunday night.
Sunday 7.30 pm, Mascotte

Day disco

On Monday, Hive is offering you a chance to escape the chocolate and bunnies that may have become the centre of you life over Easter, with an all-day party. Starting at 9 in the morning and continuing until 10 at night, this is the Easter afterhours party designed to cleanse you of your eggy excesses. 3 house/electro djs from Berlin - André Galluzzi, Daniel Dexter and Red Robin – are headlining and a bunch of great local djs will be on hand to get you through the day.
Monday 9 am to 10 pm, Hive

Inspiring Japan

It will be hard going back to work after four days filled with eating, sleeping and socialising. Therefore Loop Kill Audiovisual decided to sweeten your life from Monday to Wednesday with a relaxed mix of concerts, performances, films, visual and dj sets at Kunstraum Bellerieve. And as a special Easter gift, the organizers got the needed money via crowd funding, so the entry is for free.
Monday to Wednesday from 6 pm, Kunstraum Bellerieve

Melting pot

He is from Tunisia; she is Swiss, which is mirrored in the menu at La Contrada, offering a bright mix of couscous dishes, as well as Italian, Spanish and Swiss specialities.  Sounds like a split, but it’s done perfectly. I like this venue, its unpretentiousness brings a needed break into the local restaurant scene and I rarely came across friendlier staff. My tip, visit it on a Friday for lunch and you’ll get a free desert. It’s one of their lovely mottos to always offer a treat at the end of the week. Or try the fish, which gets chosen daily by the chef himself.

Good to know

If you’re looking forward to spring but haven’t said goodbye to winter yet, then you’ll have a few days left to head to the mountains for some skiing or snowboarding. The season’s end is near! Some areas will close this weekend already, the majority in a week, and the last few in a couple of weeks. Most resorts celebrate the end of the season with a big bang and I selected a few highlights, especially for you. Feeling local. Soul singer Seven plays at the newly opened Wetterhorn in Hasliberg on 5 April. Feeling nostalgic: Snowpenair on Kleine Scheidegg (Jungfrau) with main act Roxette on 6 April. Feeling cool: Season finale at Rider’s Palace in Laax with Smash Hifi on 13 April. Feeling international: Swedish style season closing at the Ski Lodge in Engelberg 19-21 April, you need to sign up by e-mail in advance.

Stuff for dreams

Londoner musician Daniel Woolhouse launched as Deptford Goth his debut album Life After Defo. The self-produced release is full of meaningful, slightly melancholic songs. He describes his own music as “somewhere between real and synthetic”. The perfect soundtrack for a dreamy Sunday afternoon, or an extended long Easter weekend. Listen

I love Zurich

When you really live in Zurich, you come across various situations that are familiar to everyone who lives here, but don’t mean anything to outsiders. Someone – I don’t know who’s behind that project – compiled a list of such situations, including the reactions of the ones involved. It’s a long list but I just couldn’t stop reading, nodding and laughing. A great distraction for your first day back at work on Tuesday.
