Tommy Tiernan is an Irish comedian who comes on like a manic preacher giving an hilarious sermon that even Jesus, with all his witty one-liners, could only dream about. At the heart of Tommy’s comedy are Ireland and the Irish, not with the Guinness stereotype that idiot outsiders use but the passionate love/hate of a local, and it has made him the biggest selling comic in Ireland. The International Comedy Club has lured him over from Ireland with promises of the fabled Guinness-flavoured Toblerone and he’ll be playing at Volkshaus tonight. I have 2 x 2 tickets to give away. Perla Mode has a guest: Vegan Kitchen with their food waste project « Good Food For You For Free». The restaurant for free is not just for cooking and eating. There are discussions, film screenings and an in-house supermarket for buying groceries. On Thursday they create a 10-course-dinner. You need to register ahead as the number of seats is limited. For you it’s for free. On Sunday you bring your own food waste and together you create a tasty brunch buffet.

When you hear estate agents talk about a place as being bijou and cosy you know they really mean small; well Bar Rossi is small, but also bijou and cosy and has made the most of it’s diminutive size when putting on live events. This weekend they will be celebrating their 10th birthday with 3 nights of partying. Local bands Street Corner Talking, Undiscovered Soul, Jaro Milko and the CubalKanics, and Soundcane will be performing as well as a great selection of post-gig djs. And as with all good parties, entry will be free.

How do you express the inexpressible? A question that has plagued artists forever and, let’s be honest, not one I’m going to answer for you here but dance company 3art3 have had a think and their answer is: with five dancers, two cellists, one opera singer and a dj. Their new show, Untold, uses this strange mix of bedfellows to examine the secret, repressed and unsaid things we keep from each other and ourselves. The premier is at Tanzhaus on Friday, with subsequent shows on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday.

The mystical electronica party Mystica comes round for the fifth time at Komplex 457. Generally, I tend to recommend newcomers but I’m a big fan of their line-up. With two dance floors, one chill out floor, video animations and 50 djs awaiting their turn, it’s like a mini street parade. Just without the parade.

In the, admittedly unlikely, situation of Patti Smith and Nina Simone falling in love and having a child it would probably grow up to be something like Joan Wasser aka Joan As Police Woman. With her soulful voice, deeply personal lyrics and quirky sound she’s always been a little too left field for the mainstream, although her new album, The Classic, is full of the big brassy pop hooks that may change that. She’s playing at Bogen F on Monday night.

Summer has finally arrived. There, I said it. And what does a warm sunny day need more than sunscreen and laziness? A soundtrack, of course. And on Wednesday evening this will be provided by Jonathan Wilson as he plays his wide-screen psychedelic folk-rock at Mascotte.  Calling up the spirits of Californian sunsets and dusty beach roads this is music to be submerged in as it soaks your cares away.
