Party: Smoke gets in your eyes

They’re calling it Zigiraum but I think this is just to lure and corrupt the youth of Zurich to follow the smoky, dark side. In reality Zigiraum is a free club night at Stall 6 that is half inside and half outside, allowing you to enjoy the decadent thrills of night clubbing under the decorative stars of night time (with the occasional puff if you’re so inclined). Friday is the opening night with indie rock djs Pat & der Zensor and Milieu Mauri. Other Zigiraum nights will include an eclectic mix of djs from electro to African only vinyl to rocknroll. Free entry.
Friday 5 pm (bar), 10 pm (club), Stall 6

Party: Radio Z

To every thing there is a season. Although I'm pretty sure the writers of those words weren't referring to Zurich's summer nightlife when they wrote them, it applies beautifully to the annual 30-day sound blast that is Rundfunk.fm. Starting this Friday, as it has for the past 13 years, Rundfunk will take over the radio and Internet airwaves of Zurich, and the world. This year the one hundred dj's and music makers will be broadcasting live from Geroldstrasse, rather than its usual Landesmuseum home. In addition to the music, they’ll be drinks and food on offer, as this cool corner of Zurich becomes a broadcasting beacon to the world.
Friday until 15th August, Opening weekend only (this Fri/Sat) 5 pm to late, Saturday - Wednesday 5 pm to 12 am, Thursday/Friday 5 pm to 2 am, broadcasting live all day, everyday, Geroldstrasse 15

Concert: Have guitar, will travel

Brett Newski is an American touring musician of the old school variety - through a simple twist of fate he found himself in Vietnam and, strapping his acoustic guitar to his back and riding a beat-up motorcycle, he toured throughout Asia playing rooftops, apartments, street corners or anywhere he could find a willing audience. He now pulls into Zurich at the Kiosk on Josefwiese to play his folk-punk tunes full of catchy melodies and cutting wit. If you like a little Bob Dylan or Jack White, or just want to spend a summer’s evening relaxing in a park listening to tales from another world – Brett’s for you.
Saturday 6 pm, Kiosk at Josefwiese

Party: Living the lake life

This Saturday is actually going to be a sun-day, with blue skies and temperatures tickling the lower 30’s, and so it would seem that this weekend’s dance festival on the lake has pretty perfect timing. The Naturklang Festival at Ganz Yachting has four dance floors, both inside and out, and fantastic djs from across the world turning up. If you need a break from the dancing they also have food, drinks and smoothies on-site, parasols and cushions to relax and, of course, the lake is just a dive away.
Saturday 11 am until Sunday 10 pm, Ganz Yachting, Bellerivestrasse 264, 8008

Open Air: Home and garden

For five Sunday’s during the summer the eleven housemates of the old ‘Alten Trotte’ house in Wipkingen transform their large garden into Kafi Duzis, a place where friends, family, locals and perhaps you, can enjoy a real community experience. With homemade food and cakes, a flea market, kids activities, a little live music, decorations and a group of people just looking for that sunny Sunday afternoon feeling, you might like it so much you’ll be asking if they have any spare rooms you could move into.
Sunday  3 pm until 9 pm, Alten Trotte, Nordstrasse 331, 8037

Art: Past present

As well as being situated on a hill in the beautiful Rieterpark, the Museum Rietberg is the only art museum of non-European cultures in Switzerland. The question of how works of art from distant lands, cultures and time can still hold meaning to a 21st Century Western audience is addressed in the new exhibition Gastspiel. Twenty-one Swiss contemporary artists have each entered into a dialogue with pieces on show at the museum via site-specific installations, interventions in the park, performance, theatre, and literature in an attempt to extract new meaning from both the old and new.
Sunday until 9th November, Closed Monday,10 am to 5 pm (Wed 8 pm), Museum Rietberg

Open Air: Sleeping with Suzy

Fischer's Fritz  is the tasty fish restaurant located in Zurich's lakeside campsite. Yes, Zurich has a campsite. It’s a beautiful spot directly at the lake and It’s where I met Suzy. Beautiful, shiny, American Suzy. She is an airstream overland  from Florida, and as she just turned 40, she found her final resting place on the shores of the our lake. I have one memorable night for two people to give away for free. Suzy will be your perfect hostess. Just send me an e-mail
Seestrasse 559, 8038 Zurich, normally 75 francs per night and person

Good to know: Summer in the city

School holidays started this week and I can already tell that Zurich is emptier than usual. Which I like a lot. For all of you who like to enjoy the summer in the city, here's a little overview of what's going on over the next few weeks regarding open-air events. CINEMAXenix Open air , until 16 August: in the middle of Kreis 4, this year with almost exclusively German and Swiss German film. I have 1x2 tickets to give for the US Nascar-film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (shown on Friday, 8.8.2014) from 2006. Just send me an emailFilmfluss , until 27 July: Enjoy films at the Limmat with German, French and English films, such as Now You See Me this Friday Killer Elite on Saturday. Ciné au Lac, until 17 August: The Orange Cinema sits on the right lake side, starting today with Fading Gigolo. CONCERTS:  Bäckeranlage, every Wednesday: Regional bands play unplugged - and if you don't like the sound, it's a nice place to be anyway. Oh See Festival, 17.-19. July: Rote Fabrik hosts several concerts right a t the lake ranging from indie to disco, rock and folk.  Zurich Openair: 28.-31. August: Within the almost endless line-up there is something for everyone, from The Editors to Bloody Beetroots (best live band ever!) and from Morcheeba to Manic Street Preachers.

DIY: What do you have in mind?

Next to the former  train station Letten  – yes, there used to be a train station at the river, today only the station house remains – there is a charming space, which has been creatively used as a parking lot. The cars were removed but the city council hasn’t decided yet what to do with this spot, so they are looking for ideas. You can post your suggestions for a temporary usage  here and I'll keep my fingers crossed. Keep me posted about your ideas.

Web tip: From above

Do you know the definition of the beginning of the technological age? When «love is in the air» is replaced by «drone is in the air». Terrible jokes aside, the page Dronestagram  pictures Zurich and Switzerland from above in short film footage. However, as they show my beloved city and country, love remains in the air. Or at least a pun of some sort.

Here follows content written by cityscribes:

If you're looking for something (a flat, a ticket, love), have something to give away (a flat, a ticket, ex) or have anything else to say, then this is the place to do it:
