Save the date: Jury duty

Mark the date in your diary: Next Saturday, June 20th. It's when two of mankind's greatest achievements will collide - burgers & hip-hop. Five representatives of the burger fraternity will be battling it out at Exil with creations tailored specifically for the occasion for the chance to be crowned King Burger 2015. Included in the line-up are local heroes The Bite, Stubä and Erika's Diner, plus Kung Fu Burger from Bern, and Freestyle Convention as special guests. But who's to judge such an important event, I hear you ask?  Well, dear Ronster, you are. I need two of you to be part of the jury and tell the world which burger is the best. So, if you like hip-hop or burgers, or hell, if you've just given up on life and need a reason to live, then send me an email today (11th June) and get yourself on that juicy jury.

Saturday 20th June, 2 pm Exil

Exhibition: Ruff photography

Raphael Bühlmann aka Ruffkid is from Winterthur and has been involved in the visual arts and Swiss sub-culture since he was 13. Firstly in art school, then as a graffiti artist, a theatrical scenery painter, a tattooist, a fashion designer ( Ruffkid outlet at Hardplatz 17, 8004) and as a painter exhibiting his works. He also has a great blog called illustrateduniverse.tumblr.com, which collates fantastic images from around the internet. He has now organised his first photography exhibition at Palanca, which will show works taken last year in Berlin and London. The opening party is tonight from 6 pm, and the exhibition runs until 2nd July.

Thursday 6 pm, Opening night until 2nd July, Palanca, Seebahnstrasse 125, 8003

Party: Clubosaurus

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs aka TEED may not be the catchiest of names for a pop/electronica crossover dj/producer, but when you consider this London djs real name is Orlando Higginbottom, you begin to understand his desire for a pseudonym. TEED has been creating great British dance music since his debut in 2012, combining 80's synths with complex beats and indie attitude. This is the kind of music that sounds as good in your house as it does in a club. It'll be his first time playing in Hive on Friday, along with the Mad Katz dj team and a live set from High Heels Breaker

Friday 11 pm, Hive

Open Air: Openair everywhere

Despite the grey-weather week it looks as if the weekend will be sunny and hot again. So to give thanks to the sun gods, Zurich has two mini openair festivals happening this weekend - both are free, both have a good selection of eclectic music and both will be out in the glorious sunshine. The  Landenbergfest is happening on Friday and Saturday in Wipkingen. They'll have a kids theatre and market on Saturday afternoon as well as bands including Los Armadillos, Cheekbonians and Beelzebub and if those names don't get you excited, then get down to Openair Wollishofen on Saturday, right next to the lake. In the afternoon they'll have a children's corner and then as the evening arrives, so do the bands including Betty Tuesday & The Fat Kitties, 7 Dollar Taxi and Death by Chocolate

Friday 6 pm & Saturday 2 pm, Landenbergfest, Landenbergpark, 8037

Saturday 2 pm, Openair Wollishofen, Bachstrasse 7, 8038

Festival: Surf city

It's clear to me that for such a land-locked country, Switzerland has a certain masochistic urge toward surfing, and all things wave related. This is none more evident than this Saturday's  SurfZurich fair and party. The fair takes place next to the lake at Areal Wässerig, where you'll see demos and get to try the likes of wake boarding and SUP. You'll also be able to buy gear from top surf brands. It'll also be a chance to listen to music, grill and chill. The after-party then moves to Meylenstein near Bahnhof Tiefenbrunnen. Entrance to the party will be CHF 15, if you're on the guest list. To get on the guest list email -  [email protected], for which you'll also be entered for a chance to win a kitesurfing holiday in Egypt or Greece

Saturday Surf fair 11 am to 6 pm plus evening party 6 pm to 9 pm, Areal Wässerig, Seestrasse 6/8, 8702 - After Party 8 pm to late, Meylenstein, Bellerivestrasse 268, 8008

Concert: Unplug the lake

For a few Sunday evenings throughout the summer, Seebad Enge are putting on a series of gigs called  Seebad Unplugged where some cool local bands and singers get to show off their acoustic chops. This Sunday sees Pamela Mendez playing her confessional and quirky acoustic tunes. Seebad Enge is a great venue for these types of intimate gigs. Add to that the lake view and free entry, and you may just have yourself a perfectly relaxing summer Sunday night out.

Sunday 8 pm until 30th August, Seebad Enge

Stage: Summer day

Sylvia Day is an American escapee, who's been in Zurich for the past few years doing her best to bring a little variety and comedy to the masses. Her last one-women show, 50 Shades of Day, was great and is actually on its way to New York for some off-Broadway action later in the year. Her latest show at Boulevard Theater, Summer of Love, seems to punch all the right buttons - we all like the summer and if you could throw a little love in there as well, then all the better. You can expect jokes, singing and possibly the odd impression. It begins on Wednesday for a four night run.

Wednesday (17th) until Saturday (20 th) 8 pm, Boulevard Theater

Shopping: Any questions about qwstion? → Newly opened/pop up stores

Qwstion is a concept you might know from other pop up venues over the years. The atelier focuses on creating unique bags which are sturdy but stylish. Now they've found a locale where they join forces with other brands who think alike. «QWSTION invites» is more than just the name of their new store, as they also invite young designers to show their own products. And they also invite you to join them this Friday from 6 pm  for their opening party.

Qwestions, Badenerstrasse 156, 8004

Santo: Italian holiday for lunch → Italian

A new Italian came to town: Santo. It caught my eye because of its great lunch offer which I tried immediately: 25 francs for soup, salad, lasagne and coffee. It tasted like summer holiday in Italy with large portions that I barely managed to finish. If you like a proper meal for lunch, I can truly recommend this venue.
