Party: No qwstion, print matters

Qwstion is a relatively new designer store in town. They specialise in bags but also run a program called Qwstion Invites where they open their doors and shelves to outside influences. They already have items from many Swiss and international brands and designers including clothing, jewellery and furniture but this Thursday, lovers of high quality and creative magazines from around the world, Print Matters!, will also be opening their own corner in the store. There will, of course, be a welcome party for the newcomers, and you are very much invited.
Thursday 6 pm to 9 pm, Qwstion, Badenerstrasse 156, 8004

Shopping/Beer: Scandinavian sale

I’m sure I can smell it in the air. That beast Winter is prowling somewhere over the horizon, but his right-hand man, Autumn, is already here, especially in the evenings, cajoling us to loosen our grip on Summer. It seems almost beyond coincidence then, that Brødre, the Scandinavian lifestyle team, are having an Autumn/Winter sample sale of the latest collections of many Scandinavian fashion brands at the Impact HUB Garage this Friday and Saturday. Also, on Friday, the microbrewery, Bier Factory, will be there offering tastes of their latest creations. A clothes sale and a beer factory in one location - seems like there just might be something for everyone there.
Friday 5 pm to 10 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Impact HUB Garage (next to Restaurant Rosso), Geroldstrasse 31, 8005

Eating: Waste not, want not

Around one third of all food production in Switzerland is lost or wasted between field and plate. A lot of this waste is due to ‘ugly’ produce. This is produce that doesn’t conform to the supermarket’s, and even maybe our own, expectations. The cucumber that is a little too crooked, the carrot that, frankly, looks too rude and too pleased with itself, the slightly damaged skin of an apple. I’m sure we’ve all picked them up, and then replaced them with their more handsome brethren. Well, foodwaste.ch is an organisation that has something to say about that. To bring attention to the problem, this Saturday at Helvetiaplatz, they will be cooking a feast for you to eat, made from the ugliest of produce but transformed into the most beautiful of meals. And all for free.
Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm, Helvetiaplatz

Party: Open season

The Theater Winkelwiese is a small theatre in the basement of Villa Tobler that was originally opened as a private theatre for escapees of Nazism but, since the 1960’s, has built its reputation on all things avant-garde. This season’s opening night party takes place on Saturday with live gypsy-swing and Balkan music from Vendredi Soir Swing. You can also take part in a unique and one-off interactive audio installation called Subsumme by art collective ekw14,90. And however avant-garde you think you might be, an opening party wouldn’t be a party without the food, drink and djs, and they will also be supplied in abundance. Entry is free but because of the theatre’s compact size, you’ll need to reserve your spot here.
Saturday 6 pm, Theater Winkelwiese, Winkelwiese 4, 8001

Concert: Lapdance, lapdrink, Lapcat

Oh, that special US/Swiss relationship. Look at all the great things it’s brought us...erm, tax avoidance, erm...Gruyere cheese in a McDonald’s burgers, erm...Look, there’s Lapcat! Lapcat are an electronica trio whose members hail from the US and Switzerland, and create music that combines the rhythms of hip-hop, the glitchiness of electronica and, in singer Cate Coslor, dark sweet vocal melodies that fit perfectly with the changing seasons. They play live at Zukunft on Saturday night, with support from djs Kalabrese, and Gallo.
Saturday 11 pm, Zukunft

Concert: Merseybeat

There must be something in the water of the River Mersey, as Liverpool seems to spawn more than its fair share of guitar-pop bands. From the Beatles and Merseybeat sound of the 60’s through to Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Las and Cast of later years. It now seems like the Scouse Indie Factory (which I’m sure exists) has produced it’s latest model in the guise of Hooton Tennis Club. Four young guys who have the requisite Scouse swagger and melodic charms to join the long and illustrious lineage of Liverpool bands. They play at Bar Rossi on Tuesday night.
Tuesday 8.30 pm, Bar Rossi

Dear Baroness, Is it okay that the guy I'm seeing won't go down on me?

Dear Baroness,

I’ve been dating this guy for about a month and I really like him. But there is one thing that really bothers me, and I’m not sure if maybe I’m making too much of it. Okay, so I’ll just get to the point. Though I’ve given him countless blow jobs, he has never once gone down on me. Not once. I’ve tried some subtle moves and even some verbal hints but I have never come right out and asked him to do it...What do you think?
