Zurich (EN) : Zurich 17.11.2022: Friends, Design & Skin Care

Good Morning Ronster

We live in strange times and what could possibly be stranger than saying, «the world cup starts on Sunday,» in the middle of November? Speaking of middle, that is the finger i am going to be showing to this particular tournament. Human rights abuses, the death of thousands of labourers and the complete lack of consideration given to the players, fans and the environent have left me feeling more than a bit cold about Qatar 2022 and that is why i wont be featuring it over the next couple of weeks. (Okay, i may mention the odd result or two.)

But on a more positive note! If you are into film you are in for a treat this week with two fantastic film events, one exclusively by women. You can aslo help the folks in Ukraine by checking out on of the biggest bands from that country. And...i have some skin care products from Shea Yeah to give away. Scroll down to find out more and...

Give my love to the city

Party: Find Your BFF

Are you looking for someone to play slapjack with? Someone to drink a G&T with on a Tuesday night? Someone to drive around in the sidecar of your motorcycle? Then come and join me in PurPur Bar this Thursday eve for a fiery few rounds of speed friending. If that sounds absolutely terrifying to you, do not fret, there will be a structure to it, with icebreaker questions and 6-7 minute rounds of little chit chat. You can, (obviously,) come on your own but make sure to register! And maybe before you know it you’ll find your new bestie…but if not, at least you’ll meet some fun new people!

Shopping tip: I Love The Name

Christmas isn’t that far away and, like me, i am sure you are looking for inspiration for gifts for that special someone. In my case, the special someone is ME so i am going to be heading along to the Blickfang design fair, (who's name i absolutely love for some reason,) which is taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Fashion, accessories and furniture are all represented with exhibitors hand picked from local and sustainable designers.

Film: Women, Women and More Women

If you want to check out some amazing cinema over the weekend tomorrow sees the start of the Women In Film Festival which is based in the Corso cinema by Sechseläutenplatz. They are presenting a plethora of fascinating short and feature length movies, about women and made by women. The program presents, with the exception of the world premier of Belgian film Wild Women, at least two films per showing which have been really nicely grouped by theme.

Drinking: Daydrinking 2.0

What’s better than drinking wine on a rainy Saturday? Not much if you ask me, except maybe drinking wine, combined with nibbling on black olives and dancing around in my living room in my pink fluffy dressing gown and soft slippers. This time though I’ll be swapping my homy outfit for a shirt and dancing shoes and head to the Kaufleuten…to drink wine from Vergani, nibble on Italian specialties from Osteria Santo Bevitore and dance to music from DJ Carol Fernandez. Can’t wait! Click the button to check out Carol.

Concert: Help For Ukraine

I don’t know exactly how many of you Ronsters are from Ukraine but i am pretty certain that, like me, you are heartbroken by the suffering and misery that has been caused by the war, particularly amongst children. So… this coming Wednesday Zurich hosts a Ukrainian institution, Okean Elzy who, having been formed three years after the fall of the Soviet Union, are one of the countries oldest bands. The important thing to remember here is that proceeds from this concert are going to be donated to children who have been affected by the war as well as hard hit medical institutions so, even if you can’t make it yourself, spread the word and let's get this gig sold out!

Film: Snowy slopes and sick stunts

I can’t wait to hit the pistes again, but until then, i’ll be wathincg loads of winter sport footage to hype myself up for the season. Luckily, the Freeride Film Festival is coming to Zürich this Wednesday, and for a little over a 100 minutes you get to watch crazy ski- and snowboard stunts on the big screen. But not only that, the selection of short movies also address some other themes like the danger of avalanches and what it’s like to live in a van as a professional skier from Bavaria. It will all be taking place in Kosmos cinema, and you can get your tickets here.

Nice to have: Shea It Loud

«Dragons Den» in the UK, «Shark Tank» in the US & «Die Höhle Der Löwen» in Germany. Presenting your new business ideas to a bunch of hard nosed venture capitalists is a daunting prospect so your idea better be a good one. Fortunately Sandra, the founder of Shea Yeah did have a great idea: to create skin care products that are water-free and vegan using Ghanaian shea butter and Swiss herbs. Now i’d love to tell you all about Shea Yeah, (you can read more here,) but i am sure you lovely Ronsters would love to try their products yourself so I have three fantastic beauty sets to give away. Click one of the buttons below to enter.

Eating: Anoah Now or Never

If you haven’t been to Anoah yet, this is your chance! The restaurant will be looking for a new location in the new year, so these are the last half-dozen weeks you can go for a dinner with juice or wine pairing or a lavish all-inclusive brunch at this hip-meets-haute-cuisine restaurant. The November menu features truffle risotto, plant-based tartar and charred cabbage among others, and the brunch features stacked pancakes. Need I say more? Oh yeah, I do actually, the cherry on top is that it’s all vegan!
