Zurich (EN) : Zurich 23.02.2023: Schnitzel, Yoga & Taxi Kebab

Good Morning Ronster

As you all know i love a birthday but this Friday is a particularly unwelcome anniversary. Tomorrow marks the start of Vladimir Putin’s ill-advised, brutal and pointless invasion of Ukraine and i hope with all my heart and soul that this conflict can be peacefully resolved. But thankfully we live in a country that, while it’s not perfect, is free from the sort of oppression being suffered in other parts of the world. So… enjoy showering in water you can drink, being able to have relationships with who you want and being able to speak your mind without fear. Life ain’t so bad here. Have a great weekend and…

Give my love to the city,

Well, there’s a couple of music gigs happening with a band from Utah at the Plaza and a weekend party at Club Zukunft. And to top it all off, there’s a great new schnitzel pop right at Sihlcity. This week has got it all.

Thursday: Taxi Kebab in Exil
Friday: Rocking out in downdog
Friday: Stand up comedy with Emmanuel Sonubi at Mascotte
Friday & Saturday: Weekender in Zukunft

Eating: Der Wilde Kaiser at Sihlcity

Watch out Zurich: the kaiser is in town and he’s getting wild.

That’s right. There’s a new pop up restaurant at Sihlcity called Der Wilde Kaiser that just opened this month. Their goal is to bring a little bit of Vienna to Zurich. So i decided to pay them a visit over the weekend. Click the buttons to find out more.

Shopping tip: Asian Food Shopping Made Easy

Recently, and inspired by numerous trips to Ooki, i decided to try to cook «Tantanmen», the rich and delicious Japanese noodle soup. Now i won’t comment on the success of my attempt, (it’s still a work in progress,) but i did find it quite difficult to source the ingredients i needed. Aside from all the labels in the Asian shops being in languages i couldn’t identify, let alone read, i was still short of a few items. Fortunately a friend recommended the Lian Hua website. Not only did they have everything i needed, it was delivered to my home and the descriptions of the products on the site are in English! If you are lover of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Indian food it’s a great site to source your ingredients.
