Zurich (EN) : Thursday: 13.07.2023

Good Morning Ronster

So... Did you lovely Ronsters have fun at Züri Fäscht? Three days of debauchery and i'm still feeling it. But it was great fun! I'm going to feature a few more pictures in the Photo Trip to keep you reminded of all the fun we had.

Zurich's schools also break up this week and as the temperature heats up i spoke to top cliff diver Matthias Appenzell, (much better abs than me,) about how to jump off Zurich's bridges as well as a list of my favourite fountains in the city. Have a great weekend and...

Give my love to the city

Concert: Ben Howard at X-TRA

UK singer/songwriter Ben Howard first wowed the world with his debut album «Every Kingdom» back in 2011, which went triple platinum. Not bad for a first try. His most recent one from 2021 was the Nr.1 in the UK charts, and there are rumblings of the 5th album, release date TBD. But in the meantime, you can catch him here in Zurich. His soft sound, which is a mix between electronic and acoustic, might be just the thing you need to come down from that Züri Fäscht high. Get your tickets here.

Good to know: How To Jump Of A Bridge

It seems you can’t cross the Limmat without seeing someone hurling themselves into the water from the bridges. Leaping into the water from some terrifying altitude its as much part of Zurich’s summer as a swim in the lake or Street Parade. I still haven’t plucked up the courage to take the plunge so, in search of a few tips, i caught up with Switzerland’s best cliff diver and public prosecutor, Matthias Appenzeller. Good to know: The Fountains Of Zurich

Last week, on my way home from the exit, I got stuck in front of Kern Bar. There I got into a conversation with two expats who had just moved to the city. Among other things, they raved about the many fountains in the city and the fact that they can fill up their water bottles for free there. The conversation prompted me to take a closer look at the fountains in this city. And I can tell you that I was hooked. Now I know, for example, what the «Aqui lettering» above the Olé Olé bar stands for, how to move a 12 ton piece of stone all the way from Canton Glarus to Zurich without human intervention, or where you can find a fountain that also exists in Berlin. Click the buttons to find out more about Zurich's fountains.
