 Rap History presents: Aaron LaCrate, DJ and founder of the label Milkcrate Records, who's done a lot in recent years to make Baltimore club known internationally. For those still in the dark, it's a groovy mix of rap, house, Miami base and soul. This week he plays at Stall 6, supported by DJs Ice & Ivory.

Art event
 
Paint: From 17 October to 26 October Illustrative, a graphic design event, takes place in the Messe Zurich in Oerlikon. The work ranges from psychedelic wall paintings to erotic neon pop art. 35 artists exhibit as do art focused mags including Zurich-based Kuss. Some will be doing their painting live as you watch. For the opening on Friday, you need to register online.

  Road-movie soundtrack: is the best way to describe Calexico's style, some kind of mix of texmex, rock'n'roll, swing, folk and kitsch. This week the Texan band introduces their new album “Carried To Dust” at Volkhaus. It's their only show in Switzerland and for all fans I have some goodies to give away: 3x2 tickets, 5 CDs “Carried To Dust”, 2 limited edition CDs “Two Silver Trees” and 4 Calexico car air-fresheners.

Memories: It seems to be Texas week in Zurich, music-wise. Micah P. Hinson’s latest release " And The Red Empire Orchestra“ talks about his life and influences. And they’re interesting enough: He’s been arrested for forging prescriptions and found himself bankrupt after his release. With his successful first album in 2004 "And The Gospel Of Progress“ the singer/songwriter from Texas found his footing again. He sounds a bit like Johnny Cash.

  Adrian Thaws aka Tricky: coined the music style trip hop, first with Massive Attack and, later, in his own albums. His smoky voice and dark sounds made him famous even as he was becoming more depressed, distant and radical. For his current album " Knowle West Boy" the 40 year old musician went back to his roots in Bristol to produce his signature deep but energetic music the way we know and love it.

  Always open: is what we like about shops in cities like New York but not quite standard in Zurich. But here and there you'll find a place that helps us out around the clock. Bakery Happy: Called Happy Beck by locals or sometimes Murder Beck, because one of the owners (or maybe just an employee?) killed 3 people in the 80s. It's open 365 days a year, during the week from midnight to 9 pm and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday, at Dienerstrasse 32. Pharmacy: The only pharmacy which opens its doors at any time of day or night is at Bellevue, Theaterstrasse 14. Key-service: If your bag is stolen or you lose your keys Alreel helps you anytime. Expresshop: The cornershop at Langstrasse 126 stays open 24 hours from Monday to Saturday and sells basics and alcohol. Petrol station shops: I know people who haven't been to Coop or Migros in years because they buy everything at night at their local petrol station. Some that are always open - BP Service Nord Süd, Seebahnstrasse 110; BP Service Gotthard, Mythenquai 320; BP Service, Parkhaus Zuerichhorn 142.

Of course it's unfair: that Oerlikon is slagged off as the suburbs - it's been a district of Zurich since 1934. But it just hasn't much to offer, it seems far away and, well, it's like a suburb… But I like Not Guilty. The salads and soups have no additives or any "bad" stuff but taste great, the interior is stylish and it's right next to the beautiful MFO Park. Hmm, maybe Oerlikon is catching up.
