Zurich (EN) : Zurich: Easy Dining, Michel Comte & Trio from Hell

Gastro-tourism
If you’re a foodie like me, I’m happy to report that there’s a way for you to taste your way through the city without breaking the bank. Easy Dining memberships allow you to try 45 restaurants in Zurich at half the regular price. Even better, I’ve teamed up with Easy Dining to offer my readers a sign-up discount: enter the code “ronorp33” into the “Gutschein” field on the registration page, and you’ll only pay 33 francs (instead of the regular 99 francs) for a year’s membership. From Italian specialties at Restaurant Falcone, to Asian noodles at Wagamama, to modern Swiss cuisine at Max, there’s something for every international palate. If you're interested, act fast: the offer is only available today. En Guete!
Give my love to the city, Ron.

Pop-up bar

In honour of the eponymous film celebrating the legendary club and counter-cultural space Dachkantine, Peace Club hosts a music night of forgotten underground anthems, current hits and sing-a-long classics. The venue is a pop-up, temporary bar at Ex-Konrad (187 Langstrasse); when you're not dancing to djs Alex Dallas, Calabrese, Foster, Vangelini, Demetrio Giannice and Leopold Skool, the cosy living room-like space is perfect for conversations with people from Zurich's art and music scene. Listen here for a sound preview of the dreamy vibe.

Thursday 5 pm, Ex-Konrad

Motown night
Mayer Hawthorne isn’t a formally trained singer, so how did the self-described “29-year-old white kid from Ann Arbor” revolutionise soul music? See for yourself at Mascotte’s Motown Night, where Mayer Hawthorne and the County play with DJ Jermaine and DJane Soulcat. If you’re not sure about the “soulful dress code,” I recommend taking a cue from Hawthorne himself: a natty suit with geeky glasses.
Thursday 10 pm, Mascotte

Rio raps
If you came of musical age with MTV in the late ‘80s or early ‘90s, take a trip down memory lane this Friday at Rio Bar’s old school and hip hop extravaganza, Yo! Rio Raps. Featured djs including Stern1, Krasseranz and Okocha.
Friday 10 pm, Rio Bar

Raise your voice
Voice, the magazine of music, art and online culture, launches VoiceVII: Kingston Through Afflicted Eyes, at Cinema Razzia. Thanks to curator Russell Hegert (producer of Terry Lynn Kingstonlogic) and photographer Peter Dean Rickards, Jamaica never seemed so close.
Friday 7.30 pm, Cinema Razzia

Things that go boom in the night
Die Tepeten, Styro2000, Micrometropolice, and Andaloop spice up Hechtplatz on Saturday night with live performances at Club Boomdown. A mix of electropunk, drum and bass, techno and ska music will make this an eclectic showcase for fans of the local and international club scene.
Saturday 9 pm, Club Boomdown

A hell-ish tradition
The Aad Hollander Trio from Hell are the resident house band at Switzerland’s famous Helsinki Club in Zurich. They've played there every Sunday night since August 2004, and have developed a loyal following of country, rockabilly, blues, boogie and polka fans. This drum, bass and guitar trio have roots in the Amsterdam punk scene, so there’s definitely an edge to their traditional sound.
Sunday 10 pm, Helsinkiklub

A life through the lens
What do Demi Moore, Mike Tyson and Louise Bourgeois have in common? They’ve all been photographed by Michel Comte, the Zurich-born and internationally renowned photographer, who was first discovered by Karl Lagerfield more than 30 years ago. Museum für Gestaltung is currently showing a retrospective of his work, and there’s nothing like a visual feast to combat a rainy Sunday afternoon. Entrance fee of 12 francs.

Sunday 10 am, Museum für Gestaltung

Good to know
World Radio Switzerland is Switzerland’s only fully-fledged radio station completely in English and it’s expanding its network to include the whole of Switzerland on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting). If you’ve not yet heard, DAB is taking over the nation – all FM signals are due to be cut soon. If you’re not familiar with DAB, then you’ll be happy to know it provides distortion-free reception and a far superior sound than FM radio. For example, you can pause your programme and restart where you left off, record to a memory card for later playback and even flag a programme to be recorded in advance – it’s like TiVo for your radio. This week, to celebrate the move to DAB across the country – and its 2nd birthday – WRS is broadcasting live from Restaurant Movie all week from 4.30 pm to 7 pm. If you want to meet my key people from Ron Orp’s Mail, head down there on Friday from 4 pm onwards, where you can hear an interview with them and discover more about us and the radio station.

Thursday/Friday, 4.30 pm to 7 pm, Restaurant Movie

Black is the new black
Move over Holly Golightly and Audrey Hepburn. Designers Eliane Diethelm and Joanna Skoczylas are reinterpreting the classic sheath dress with their new label, Little Black Dress. The launch party for their first collection of cocktail and evening dresses (in black, of course, as well as the colours of the season) takes place at their Josefstrasse location.
Wednesday 6 pm, Little Black Dress
