Zurich (EN) : Zurich, 17.12.09: Forum, The Clash & The Peacocks

Dear friends,
Don’t forget – if you go to the city page (Zurich EN) on the website you can place ads for flats, jobs, and anything else you're looking for or that you have to give away under Publications. In the Forum you can start discussions about any topic which might be preying on your mind.
Give my love to the city, Ron

Hi Gast,
you have:
(Re)member

Hubertus-temporary revives a local legend. The history-laden restaurant Hubertus had to close almost a year ago. Now it’s been revived again as a meeting point for culture, art and friends. Every Thursday the bar is open with beer, grill and music. This week with Micro Soul and DJ Boo & Repos. You have to be a member – but you can become one on the spot. It doesn't cost much and it's a one-off fee.
Thursday 8 pm, Hubertus-temporary

Art sale

Station 21 sells art pieces from 30 artists at the end of this week. The prices are truly affordable, starting at 1 Franc. As well as getting some last minute gifts you’ll also have a chance to chat to some of the artists up close and personal.
Friday 6 pm & Saturday 1 pm, Station 21

Warm rhythms

Each city has its own beat and if you look at Zurich's club scene, its beat could be techno. However, the world of music has much more to offer. Ludmilla presents the best of Baile Funk (all the rage in Rio), Kuduro and Afrohouse at Besame Mucho. If you're not able to shake off the cold this Friday, you'll have to ask yourself “can you dance to your own beat?”
Friday 10 pm, Besame Mucho

All night long

This Friday, the Morning Kids will take over St. Pauli Bar: The two main djs, Dejan and Jauss, have already seamlessly shifted several nights into mornings. The warm-up is from the usual resident djs Ma Nemoj und DJane Doe. You can party until 5 in the morning and if you don't feel like going home, head to Hubertus (where you became a member on Thursday) for the after party.
Friday 10 pm, St. Pauli Bar

Sunday rock

Sunday evenings feel even lonelier than summer ones and, of course, they’re much darker. There’s nothing better than an energetic concert to get rid of Sunday blues and winter ones too. The Peacocks start their mini tour through Kreis 4 at La Catrina this Sunday.
Sunday 9.30 pm, La Catrina

New Wave

I love The Clash. Actually, I’m such a huge fan, I'm even recommending a club I’ve never visited before. The Marquee club hosts a tribute night to new wave and punk called London Calling. If you turn up, look for me, I’m usually found at the bar.
Saturday 10 pm, Marquee

Good to know

I usually try to avoid Sunday sales – the few Sundays every year where the shops are opened to everyone, and where everyone (it seems) has the chance to buy whatever their heart desires. I have a few alternative tips if you want to head into the city centre. A walk though the inner courtyard of Landesmuseum will clear your head and the light projections are fabulous. Then go to the Niederdorf where market stalls also offer Glühwein and crepes. If, by this time, dusk has fallen, then just walk to Alte Börse to their night market.

Smoke less

Helsinki has already introduced the new law against smoking indoors, well almost, at least until the end of the last set. This Tuesday the small club presents Paul's Boutique. The jazz band will play four sets (smoke-free) throughout the night.
Tuesday 8.30 pm, Helsinki

Web

At the Urban Age Conference in Istanbul, experts discussed the future of the metropolis which lies on the Bosphorus Straits. The city is at the crossroads between East and West and is exposed to unique changes. If you look closely at the film, you’ll discover a typical Swiss product with a big M. And I don't mean minaret. Length: 8 minutes.

fertility issues: A while ago I saw the start of a discussion about fertility treatment in switzerland and how it compares to other countries. however, i cannot find that thread anymore so i thought i'll just ask again about different expriences.I know that the laws differ from one place to anotherand i assume the price too. a good friend of mine just tried her luck three times here in zurich and was now told that her chances had been better if she'd done it in spain or uk. does anyone know anything about this or has some advice?
