Dr hip hop

Dr Reezm, co-owner of infamous Hum Records on Ankerstrasse, plays a selection from his record collection at Zukunft, this Thursday, supported by the talents of Mr Kejeblos (maybe studying for his doctorate?). As always Thursday night is free entry, and for all those suffering from the smoking ban, Bar3000 acts as a smoking room when Zukunft is open below.
Thursday 11 pm, Zukunft

Double Act

As part of his ongoing humanitarian service to bring Anglo humour to Switzerland, Guy Stevens’ funny laundry hosts two of the biggest names in stand-up this Friday at VolkshausEd Byrne and Rich Hall will be sharing their unique views of the world, as well as a little chaos, for the first time in Switzerland. I have 2 pair of tickets to give away.

Xenix XXX

Xenix is a Kreis 4 institution as well as one of the best art house cinemas in Switzerland, and this Friday it celebrates its 30th anniversary with a festival . With activities for the kids, as well as films, live music and djs later in the evening there is something for everyone. Outside of the festival time, the Xenix area is one of my preferred summer spots to relax with a cool drink and play, or watch, a game of boccia.
Friday 3 pm, Xenix

Short and sweet

If Bruce Lee being resurrected as a puppet and a film made almost entirely of logos sounds like your kind of thing, then head to Razzia on Saturday where, as their season finale, they’re showing 13 short, animated films, from around the world, including 3 from Switzerland. Many of the films are award winners, and show the many various styles of world animation outside of the Disney template.
Saturday 8 pm, Razzia

Easy like a Sunday morning

I can think of few better ways to spend a Sunday morning then eating brunch whilst listening to some mellow live music. As if my wish had been granted, Schmuklerski has Brunch on Stage this Sunday combining these two things perfectly. R n B Caravan will play their easy Rhythm and Blues sounds whilst you tuck into your Gipfeli and coffee. Ahhh, some things just are good together.
Sunday 11 am, Schmuklerski

Doogyrev

The reversibly named, to rococo rot, will play live at Exil this Saturday. The Berlin bands electronic, post-rock sound has loosened up since the release of their last album, which should give these live events an added sense of play and exploration.
Tuesday 9 pm, Exil

Good to Know

Reading the news makes me want to do more for the environment. City life can get in the way of that sometimes, but I found a few things that make your (and my) conscience a bit better.  Phone book: Did you know that one of the fat phone books loitering in the hallway belongs to you? Each household just received the latest edition. I was surprised to read that more than 80% of all Swiss households still use it to look up addresses. But maybe you belong to the other 20%. So, if you’re tired of receiving and storing the large book you can cancel the delivery (for next year) online now. Recycling: I often forget the dates to put out my piles of paper and cardboard. And the phone book takes up a lot of space! On the ERZ site you can set up your personal recycling calendar and even a sms/text reminder. Fridge/freezer: The city becomes more active on energy savings. If you replace your old fridge or freezer with an A++ labelled model, EWZ will give you 20% of the money back if you live in the city of Zurich and hand in the receipt. A++ models use about 50% less energy, so you’ll save even more money throughout the year.

Every picture tells a story

Forget 3-D movies, 4-D is the new wave. HBO Imagine allows you to watch a short film and view it from 4 different angles, only by switching between the views will you see the full story. Half the fun is figuring out the story on your own — in fact, that’s what turns the otherwise passive experience of watching content into a game.

Oodles of noodles

Ooki opened a year ago but I think it’s still worth reminding you of this little place. The noodle soups are rich and budget-priced and the dessert milk rice filled with sweet red bean paste is delicious. I also recommend the rice sandwiches and the sake. This continues to be one of my favourite lunchtime restaurants.
Ooki, Bäckerstrasse 39

If you're looking for something (a flat, a ticket, love), have something to give away (a flat, a ticket, ex) or have anything else to say, then this is the place to do it:
