Zurich (EN) : Zurich 30.9.10: Digital dreams, cowboy clubbing and book browsing

Hi Gast,
you have:
Digital dreams

Besides London, Zurich is the scene of world-renowned digital film festival onedotzero. Whether motion design, short film, music video or commercial, the goal is to explore the visual boundaries. An afterparty is also planned with music by djs Demegy, Somtek and Partikel, and I have 2x2 pairs of tickets to give away. Email me.
Thursday 8:30 pm, Seefeld Razzia

Dynamic duo

Please don’t be fooled by Mosh Mosh. Whilst Lady Mosh and Posh Mosh may sound like genteel young ladies they will, in fact, rip your world apart.  This New Wave duo delivers cracking sounds and heavy bass lines wrapped in diva-esque attitude.  If you were worried that the coming months would bring a chill, these girls are sure to warm you up, ears and eyes first.
Thursday 10 pm, Longstreet Bar

High noon

Saddle up and ride your pony to My Place this Friday for a cowboy themed night of tunes from the likes of Johnny Cash, Mumford & Sons and the Dixie Chicks. It’s been a while since I rode the prairies of the wild Züri west but I’ve never forgotten the best advice I received – never squat with your spurs on! Yeeehaaaaa!
Friday 9 pm, My Place

Club creation

It always brings a glow to my heart when a new club opens its doors in town.  The possibility of a new favourite place to hang out or just a different room to dance the night away.  Frieda’s Büxe is such a place in Kreis 3 and Saturday is the opening night. Local dj Andri will be playing and i'll be there to welcome them into the Ron family.

Devil’s tunes

Karaoke from Hell is back from its summer break to make your winter slightly less frozen. For the season kick-off party two bands will be playing live, Dollhouse and Lonely Kamel, who both know how to rock a room, then once the groove, or possibly the alcohol, have got to you the Karaoke from Hell band will let you get on stage to show the world how it should really be done.

Soapy sport

Idaplatz has changed this summer. Last year (and the years before), the bars at the square were always crowded with people. All except one – Le Calvados. Though the bar gained cult status through the Swiss soap Lüthi & Blanc (similar to Eastenders) but it never looked inviting, mostly because you couldn’t see inside. The new crew let the sunshine in and created a sports bar which I’ve heard will screen all Champion's League games.

Good to know

English books and bookshops: A few years ago it was difficult to find English literature in the city, except for the one establishment in the city centre. But now there are several. Orell Füssli: Is the classic with English books on three floors at its central location at Bahnhofstrasse. The Travel Bookshop: I love the clutter and the seemingly chaotic layout of this shop. As the name suggests it deals mainly in travel literature - not exclusively English - but still a good place to browse. Buchhaus: Is the bookshop in Sihlcity that includes a large English section. Pile of books: Is the newcomer in this group, a rather small but well-stocked bookshop that just sells English books. Generally, most bookshops have an English section to keep up with the growing international population in this oh-so-cosmopolitan city.

Make art, not rubbish...

...is what Jesse Limmen probably thought when he bought 18 spray cans and converted Holland's rubbish into an art object. I think I've never seen such fancy rubbish bags!

Ingenious architecture

A year ago i stayed in a Hong Kong hostel and the room was absolutely tiny. The apartments there are not bigger. But Hong Kong-based architect Gary Chang had an ingenious idea and built an apartment that has 24 different rooms - within 31 square meters! Watch
