Zurich (EN) : Zurich 26.08.2021: Goodbyes, Rescues & Hello Again

Good Morning Ronster

After last week's sad news that I would be discontinuing the English newsletter it was an emotional roller coaster. I was inundated with emails of support. Thank you so much! The reasons for my decision were never a lack of enthusiasm but rather financial ones.

Your fantastic reaction gave me such a boost that I just had to find a solution. It wasn’t easy. But after hundreds of emails and phone calls (and a collaboration with Swisscom), I will keep the English newsletter going for another year and continue to regale you with terrible puns and news about the best restaurants, concerts and events in town. Hooray! Have a great weekend and....

Give my love to the city

Film: From The East End Of The Med

Hummus & Popcorn, the festival that celebrates film from and about Palestine celebrates its third birthday this year. But that’s not the reason to go. The reason to go is the great films that they will be showing. Check out their full program here as there is a variety of language and subtitle options. Buy some popcorn and er…some hummus and enjoy.

Comedy: Friday Night Laughs

Chuckles, chortles, guffaws, sniggers & giggles. Expect all of them at Comedy Haus this Thursday as they are hosting comedian an TV host, Frank Richter. Incidentally Frank was the first person to perform comedy in the Federal Parliament which, considering some of the stuff that goes on there, comes as a surprise. Now don’t be put off by his website - the show will be in English with five other comedians performing.

Eating: Food Trucks That Don't Suck

After the past few years would you take a quick bite from Outbreak Food? Constipated? Laxmanufactur may sound appealing? Well, strange though the names may sound, they must be good as they are both finalists in the Swiss Street Food Awards which is taking place next to Viadukt this weekend. Ten food trucks with a variety of cuisines are competing so there should be something tasty for everyone.

Party: A Platz To Party

I love Brupbacherplatz. It’s home to some of my favourite bars, restaurants, ice cream parlours and it always has a peaceful and relaxed vibe. But expect things to hot up this weekend as the quiet square plays host to the annual Brupbacherplatzfest with great food, drinks and music all on offer.

Shopping tip: Go With The Flöh

Actually Kreis 3 has a lot going on this weekend as, on Saturday, there is the Kreisflöhmi which gives seller the opportunity to sell unwanted clothes, bikes and er…whatever. Actually Kreis 3 has bucket loads of locations so take a leisurely ride around Wiedikon, Sihlfeld and Friesenberg and pick up some bargains. Last year it was really great!

Good to know: King Of Ping...Again

A few weeks ago I wrote about some great locations for playing table tennis but as the «warm» and «sunny» months come to a close you may wish to play somewhere less damp and windswept. Well you are in luck as Amboss Rampe are starting up their Monday night, Hip Hop, Ping Pong and Beer evening, hosted by the elusive and mysterious «Frau Ping»

p.s. There probably is no such person as «Frau Ping».

Good to know: Let's Get Really High

On Saturday i found myself thinking, «I wish it could be Rooftop Day everyday.» I even sang it along to a song by British glam rock band, Slade. Well, in Zurich it kind of can be as Zurich’s topography and buildings make for some pretty spectacular views, especially if the weather is clear. I’ve come up with a list of some of my favourite views over the city and surrounding areas. Click the buttons to get really high.
