Give my love to the city

I don’t need to tell you how much of a fan of cycling i am. There is no better way of getting around the city than on a bike so if you don’t have one, get one. And perhaps Zurich Cycle Week can help? From Wednesday (yeah, i know it was yesterday,) until Sunday everything «velo» related will be catered for. So if you a looking for advice on a new bike or you want some tips for the pump track, this is the place to go.

It is Zurich Cycle week so it only seems right to mention the opening of a new cycle store on the Langstrasse. Today is the grand opening of the flagship store of Siech Cycles, a company that make simple, uncomplicated and stylish city bikes. Drop in from 4pm to check out their bikes and enjoy a drink. Oh yeah, and maybe go home with a new set of wheels.

A few years ago i visited a lovely Japanese pop-up restaurant in Chuchi am Wasser and i’m pleased to say that they are back for the summer season with wonderful bento meals. This time momomai.ch are setting up their temporary home in the Convivio restaurant, a stones throw from the Langstrasse.

Hive is back up and running and this weekend they have a very special guest in composer, DJ and musician, Seth Schwarz. Seth has successfully merged classical composition techniques with dance music and if you are very lucky he may play his violin for you on Saturday too.

Mexican food is just great. The zing of limes, the subtle fragrance of coriander and, the best bit of all, the kick of the chilli. Now that your tastebuds are in overdrive there is a new pop up which is serving just what you need. La Reina del Barrio (the queen of the hood if my Spanish serves me correctly,) is going to be taking up residence in the Kronenstübli Thursdays through Saturdays until the end of August.

If, (and this a big if,) the weather holds out enjoy an open air film in the salubrious setting of the Dolder. Dolder Wellen Kino is going to be showing films outdoors from the 6th until the 22nd of August. Bring your picnic blanket and enjoy a film cuddled up next to your loved one. What could be finer? Nothing screams summer fun more than gliding down a plastic tube into freezing cold water. The water up the nose, the feeling of unbridled terror when someone is trapped in the pipe in front of you. And let’s not forget the issue of missing bathing suits. (or as one friend of mine managed to do, burn a hole through his swim suit) Actually, i really love a water slide and fortunately Zurich has a few of them. I have listed by length with the shortest first because in this particular case size does matter.
