Zurich (EN) : Zurich 19.11.2020: Pop, Up & Fondue

Good Morning Ronster

First of all i would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part in Balance Day last Sunday. What a great day it was and i’d love to say a special thank you to the various people who organised classes and opened their studios. There’s way too many to mention but you know who you are.

This weeks newsletter has a distinctly foodie theme on account of…well…nothing much else going on. But there are some great new pop-ups so get out and about and give them a whirl. Have a great week and don’t forget…

Shopping tip: It Starting To Feel A Lot Like...

Christmas is soon upon us, (provided the North Pole isn’t on the quarantine list and Santa’s elves aren’t rife with Covid.) Assuming Christmas isn’t cancelled Atelier A are running a new pop-up that will provide you with handmade Christmas wreaths to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Eating: Pop Up Art

Art, food and drink all in the same place. «Where is this wonderful place,» I hear you cry. This Friday, pop-up bar, art-space and restaurant Leuehof opens its doors for the very first time and will be remaining there until the middle of February. Their gin-aquavit-vermouth-cumin concoction looks particularly intriguing…

Eating: Food From The Top Of The World

What is a Himalaya burger? Yummy, that’s what. But if you are not entirely sure i wrote about it here. This weekend, Himalaya-Burger over near the Toni-Areal are celebrating their first anniversary so if you haven’t tried one, now’s your chance.

Shopping tip: More Gardening

Thank Buhdda for Gerolds Garten. They are providing a splash of colour and interest in these otherwise drab times. This Saturday is the first of their «Geschenklimarkt’s» which give you an opportunity to find some unique gifts as well as supporting local artists and producers. Oh yeah. There’s glühwein on tap there too. If they ask «mit Güx?» my advice is to say yes.

Shopping tip: Food For Body & Soul

What? More food and art? A new concept store by Enzian is opening in the Niederdorf. Eat & Art sits next to their vegan bakery with two floors, the first one being of art, selected second hand fashion and plants. The second floor serves up vegan cosmetics and treatments and best of all, all made in Zurich. If you head over on their opening day (Saturday) they’ll give you 10% off. Yay!

Saturday 9am, Eat & Art, Niederdorfstrasse 30, 8001

Drinking: Take The Bin Out

Thank Buhdda for Binz & Kunz. They are also providing a splash of colour and interest in these otherwise drab times. This Saturday they are presenting their Binz & Beats brunch. Sip a glass of prosecco, sample some food and enjoy some tuneful tunes from their DJ. And in these times i love a website that says, «We are open!»

Saturday 11am, Binz & Kunz, Räffelstrasse 17, 8045

Fon-do-it

Christmas is not just about puppies and Glühwein. The start of the colder months sees your average Swiss citizen (and me for that matter,) lunging for a bucket of melted cheese. But where to get it? You could head to the local supermarket but i have discovered a wonderful website where you can really pimp your fondue and create it to your taste. Stronger cheese? No problem? Spicy chilli? Sold. Want beer, wine or even prosecco? Pour it in. But best of all it’s locally sourced milk products from Einsiedeln in Canton Schweiz. Be aware that the website is in German but it the fondue creator is fantastic and the website is great.

Sustainability, bio-diversity & ethical production. These are some of the central concepts for a new pop-up opening this Tuesday.
