So…the warm and balmy days of February are behind us but a new cloud is casting a shadow. Yep, Corona Virus is causing havoc ,with the authorities cancelling events, often at very short notice. At the time of writing there is no notification of any of the events listed here being cancelled but please check the relevant websites before you head out. I’ve crossed out the ones that may get cancelled but let’s hope they don’t.

As well as the victims of the disease, please also spare a thought for all the musicians, agents, actors, dancers, lighting & sound technicians, catering staff, set designers, photographers, DJ’s, venue owners (and if i have missed you please include yourself,) who are facing an uncertain future with no guarantee of assistance from the authorities. Have a great week and don’t forget…

Give my love to the city (but no touching)

Party: Into The Terrible Twos

Has it already been two years? Kasheme opened it’s doors in March 2018 and, this weekend, they are putting on a whole host of great DJ’s to celebrate. The party starts on Thursday night with New York’s DJ Spinna, ably backed up by local vinyl junkie, DJ Spruzzi. Check out their website for more details as there is events right across the weekend. Happy Birthday…

Festival: New Music On Your Radar

If you have suffered the disappointment of a show being cancelled due to the corona virus, all is not lost. On Saturday, the Radar Festival for new music will take place in various (small,) venues around the Langstrasse area of the city. The Radar Festival boasts 10+ venues and a whopping 35 acts over the course of Saturday evening. A festival that should be on everyones scope.

Film: Women In The Kosmos

International Women’s Day really resonates in Switzerland (for reasons that i wrote about here,) but any major gatherings are likely to be cancelled due to the corona virus. However, Kosmos are hosting a series of events on Sunday with films and talks taking place throughout the day.

Audiolicious: More Misogyny

If you would rather listen to music than watch a film then the Theatre Neumarkt are celebrating IWD with Ode to the Patriarchy II. Thirteen excellent female singers will loop perform misogynistic songs whilst the audience wanders between them. Of course, if you are female then you get a 10 CHF discount on the ticket. I wonder if «Blurred Lines» will get an airing?

Good to know: Keeping Abreast Of Developments

Coronavirus is casting a massive shadow over, well, the whole planet and whilst i am feeling fairly relaxed about my prospects of catching Covid-19 it is an ever evolving situation and restrictions on events, trains and advice from cantonal governments are changing on a day by day basis. How does one stay on top of this fluid situation? Well, there is a new twitter account called Alertswiss which aims to keep you updated with current alerts and news from round the country. Very useful if you are travelling regularly and may be affected by the Corona outbreak.

Eating: Four Course Walk

Four Chefs. Four different restaurants. On Tuesday and Wednesday next week Chreis Gnuss gives you a fantastic opportunity to sample the delights of not one but four restaurants, Rosi, Huusbeiz, Z am Park and Jdaburg. The way it will work is that, once you have booked, you will be divided into groups and visit each restaurant to try one course from each. Now, i know chefs well enough to know that they are going to be doing their very best to out do one another so i’m sure you are in for a big treat. Now, don’t worry if you can’t make it. The event is going to be repeated in April so you get a second bite of the cherry.
