With summer finally having the gumption to live up to its name, there are a bunch of open air cinemas popping up this week that are optimistically hoping that summer will also continue for the next few weeks, those crazy fools. The Sofa Openair Kino will be on in Wipkingen over the weekend. They're showing three movies but only one, the excellent Nebraska, is in English (being shown on Friday). Film Am See (free entry) at Rote Fabrik will be showing a film every Thursday until the end of August. The theme of this year's programme is the radio, with films including Play Misty For Me, The Boat That Rocked and the classic Orsen Welles radio play, War of the Worlds, which made America lose its collective mind when it was first broadcast in the 1930's. FilmFluss at Badi Unterer Letten, which is always a great location for an openair, are showing a diverse selection of movies from the sublime, the Oscar winning Whiplash, to the ridiculous, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which i believe has a man called Oscar in it. Riff Raff are having an openair surf film night on Wednesday and will be showing View from a Blue Moon, which raises surf documentaries to a new level of technology, beauty and excitement, and The Accord, a documentary about surfing in Iceland (who knew that was a thing?). At BarFussBar on Wednesday you can see a combination film and stage performance, called Alles und Nichts, by two women who have developed the piece themselves and been inspired by Dada. Finally, and actually starting next week not this, is the Allianz Cinema (formally Orange Cinema) at Zurichhorn. As usual they'll have a good selection of films for all tastes, and is certainly the biggest and most organised of the city's openair cinemas, and the location is pretty fine too.

The Schreinerstrassenfest has now become a 30 year-old Zurich institution. Every summer the Schreinerstrasse residents invite the rest of the city to their quiet corner of Kreis 4 to enjoy their hospitality. This year, to delight and entertain you, they'll have a kids programme of clowns, balloons and a Tamil dance group to start with, and then once the little'un's have exhausted their precious selves, the rest of the evening will belong to the bands -  Jambox, Etobasi and Zephyr Combo will be there to move you into the early hours of Sunday. You'll also find a fully stocked bar, plus a grill, tajine cooking and crepes for sustenance. If you would prefer your street parties to be more a little more on the Oerlikon side of town, then the Hunzikerfest is also taking place on Saturday. Hunzikerplatz is home to a neighbourhood of community housing, and this streetfest represents the cultures and diversity that live there. They'll have a kid friendly program during the afternoon, with a huge lineup of bands, performances and djs throughout the day and night. The food stalls will be serving international dishes from Honduras, Nigeria, Eritrea and India. You can also learn more about the Hunkiker social project from a number of workshops and tours of the area.

If you've ever travelled to pretty much anywhere in the world, one of the joys is sampling the food available in that country, but if you want to get a real local flavour then you need to sample the food sold by street vendors. It may not be five-star cuisine but nothing beats eating a tasty, juicy something sitting on the roadside watching a strange world go by. Zurich has been getting more street food savvy over the last couple of years and, as proof, it will be the fifth time that the Street Food Festival takes place, at  Brache Güterbahnhof, Hohlstrasse. They'll have an international array of over 70 trucks and stalls selling everything from Korean soul food and ceviche to fish'n'chips and empanadas.
