Every Thursday for the last six months, Gessnerallee has been opening it’s doors to the art collective, Friction, for their run of experimental events called ‘Today Is A ______ Day’, with the blank space being changed and filled with whatever the event’s theme was for that particular week. Well, for the next couple of days the event’s name is ‘ Today Is The Last Day’ and, as your razor sharp mind may have deducted, it’ll be their closing party. Thursday they’ll have Zurich electro trip-hop band, Mary Lane, playing live. While on Friday the freakiest 'hip-hop' crew I’ve heard in a while, Boyz In The Woods, play live, followed by a ‘performance party’ to keep things experimental until the end.
Thursday 8 pm & Friday 9 pm, Gessnerallee

Romboy → Parties

Marc Romboy is one of the giants of German dance music. He’s been a successful dj and producer for over a decade, and since launching his own record label, Systematic Recordings, in 2004 has become a curator and promoter of some of the best electro/house music being produced in Europe. On Friday he’ll be the headliner, djing at Hive as part of a night organised by Quottom and Mad Katz. Alongside Romboy will be the Mad Katz dj team plus djs Sentiment, CNDR, Uhuruku and Barbir
Friday 11 pm, Hive

Squirrel! → Stage

Do you have a short attention span? Has the digital overload so frazzled your mind that you can only focus on 3-4 minute, goldfish-like portions of information before you get bored? Never fear, dear Ronster, why should you try to improve your lifestyle when the world will bend itself to your needs. Legs, at Corner College, is an 8-hour continuous performance with short contributions from many artists from different disciplines. Each performance will last a maximum of 9 minutes before being handed on, relay-like, to the next. You’ll be able to come and go as you please throughout the day.
Saturday from 11 am, Corner College

Tales of the city → Events (various)

The iconic apartment blocks at Lochergut have been dominating the Kreis 4 skyline for the last 50 years. It is one of Zurich’s oldest high-rises and even had a famous resident in Swiss playwright and novelist Max Frisch. Now, a book is being curated called ‘ Lochergut – Ein Portrait’ that will tell the story of the building through it ex- and current residents. On Sunday there is an exhibition, dj and drinks taking place, and they’re all taking place in a laundry. Yes, that’s right. Learn more about this corner of Zurich, meet local characters, listen to djs Schalter & Falter, sip a few drinks and all whilst getting your underwear washed. What more could you want on a Sunday afternoon?
Sunday 4 pm to 7 pm, Lea’s Waschhaus, Sihlfeldstrasse 88, 8004

Creative pasta → Events (various)

Do you sometimes feel the need to be creative but lack the musical instruments? Or perhaps it’s the paint and canvas you’re missing? Or if you’re anything like me, it’s the absence of a homemade spaghetti meal that holds you back? All of the above creative blockages have been remedied by the Jam & Art – and Spaghetti event at Planet 5 on Sunday. They’ll supply you with all the amps, keys, mics and drums needed to allow your inner rock god to shine through, as well as the colours and linen needed to paint your masterpiece. And once you’ve finished experimenting with the boundaries of good taste, you can sit down to a meal of homemade vegetarian spaghetti. Entry and use of equipment is free. Spaghetti is 6-.
Sunday 5 pm to 10 pm, Planet 5

Good to know: It's time to vote again

Voters decide on four national issues on the ballot this Sunday. I’m sure you've seen many posters but here's a short summary: An initiative wants to enforce the deportation of convicted foreigners, a second proposal aims for a ban on financial food speculations, the third issue seeks to give tax breaks to married couples and there is the decision as to whether or not to build a second road tunnel for Gotthard. Lots of exciting stuff – however the first one is the most controversial. Swissinfo offers in-depth features on all topics in English if you want to find out more.

Shopping tip: Where furniture come with soup

This is the end...but before the Showroom across from Siemens disappears for good it receives a breath of fresh air with soup, furniture and take-away. An interesting combination? Well, it’s certainly worth a trip with tram 3 to find unique pieces and film memorabilia. And if you get hungry while browsing, try one of their tasty organic soups.
Suppen & Möbel, Albisriederstrasse 248, 8047. Opening hours: Until the end of April, Monday to Friday from 11.30 am to 2 pm, Saturday 1 pm to 5 pm

Eating: The new veteran

Lily’s used to be the new kid on the block at Langstrasse, nowadays it reminds me of a veteran who’s always been there. The concept has stayed the same over time but it’s as modern and tasty as ever. The only downside: It’s always full. If you’re looking for a table (they don’t take reservations) don’t forget that Lily’s spread its wings and opened a branch close to Idaplatz: An airy venue with large windows and great Asian food.
Lily’s, Sihlfeldstrasse 58, 8003. Opening hours: Somday to Sunday 11 am to 12 am

Ron’s video gem: How the world grows

During the Roman Empire, roughly 170 million people lived on the earth. Today we are more than 7 billion, the number growing daily. The animated world map in the clip shows how the population grew over the centuries and what it will look like in 2050.
