Zurich (EN) : Extra newsletter: Dance yourself dizzy - Zurich Tanzt!

GET ON YOUR DANCING SHOES

It's time to get your dancing shoes out of the basement and put them on those fidgety feet. Because ZURICH TANZT is happening this weekend, turning the entire city into a gigantic dance floor. As one of my usual tips would hardly be enough to cover all of my personal highlights, I have put together this extra newsletter, especially for you.

RIVER DANCE

You’ll get a great insight into the contemporary dance scene at the Tanzhaus on Friday and Saturday night. They’ll be showing three short pieces that give an ideal opportunity for bite–sized appreciation of modern movement. After you’ve had a taste of the main shows, DJ Sistaesta will be playing in the foyer giving you a chance to make up your very own contemporary dance moves. For more info, click here.

Friday & Saturday, 8 pm to 10.30 pm  Tanzhaus Zurich, Wasserwerkstrasse 129

REMOTE CONTROL

There is a certain balletic synchronicity that happens to people when they’re walking down a busy street but when a group of 50 strangers all move in the exact same way, at the exact same time then either alien body snatchers have arrived to wreck havoc or the Remote Citizen project is back in town. If you’ve ever wanted to be part of a team of remote-controlled androids moving through the city, then register yourself here.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, various times, various places

DO THE LOCOMOTION

For this year’s ZURICH TANZT, the Main Station is transformed into a huge stage, and the most exciting, innovative and outstanding dance groups will be performing there. But this isn’t just about sitting on your butt, but potentially also lending a hand or foot as some of the groups will give you a mini-crash course directly on the stage. Afterwards, you can put your new dance moves to use as the station is turned into a giant club as some great djs from Zurich’s nightlife including Robby Naish (Stall 6), Johnny Roxx (Mascotte), Toni Smash FX (Plaza) and Franco Fashion (Exil) will close out the night.

Saturday from 6 pm Hauptbahnhof

DISCOVER ZURICH

Are you less of a dancer, but more of an explorer? No problem, even for you, there is something to do, as Tour de Danse invites you to get to know the city from a new perspective. Using the rivers, the traffic, people and ideas flowing across Zurich; dancing the invisible boundaries of the city or questioning the automated behaviour in urban areas. Or perhaps you would prefer to explore the margins of Africa; walk in the footsteps of Rudolf von Laban or sit in a tram and rediscover ZurichThe choice is all yours, dear Ronster!

Saturday & Sunday, various times, various starting locations

POPPIN’ & LOCKIN’

In Gessnerallee on Sunday you get the chance to be transported back to Brooklyn of the late 70’s and watch B-Boys and B-Girls battle it out in breakdance competitions. There will be separate adults and kids rounds, the winners of each will go on to the next until they reach the final, and guess who decides the winners? You do! Clap loud enough and the team of your choice gets to fight another battle. All information can be found here.

Sunday from 2.30 pm Gessnerallee

DANCE YOURSELF DIZZY

A weekend of dance related activity in Zurich wouldn’t be complete if you came out of it not knowing the difference between shaking your money-maker and trotting your fox, and I promise there will be a crash course to show you the difference. Whether it’s old Indian Karana, Hula, Rumba, African, Ragga, historic round dances from the Renaissance or water ballet, there is nothing that does not exist. See all courses here.

Saturday, 12 pm to 5 pm, Sunday 12 pm to 5.30 pm various locations

...AND FINALLY

If you’re still not convinced to take part, then check out this video. If that doesn’t help, and frankly I don’t believe it, then here is the full ZURICH TANZT program that should have something for even the most stone footed Ronster. All events.
