Street Files have been supplying the discerning menfolk of Zurich with their contemporary, urban fashion needs for almost ten years and now, after a decade, they’ve finally realised that those cute, better looking men who come to peruse their shop occasionally are actually something called females. With this flash of insight they’ll be opening the first Street Files Female store on Thursday night. The same cool streetwear, fashion, sneakers and accessories as always, but ladyized. The Grand Opening party will have music by Nadeeya Laflame, food by Panda Buns and drinks by Vagabundo.

There’s an old joke where a nymphomaniac tells a stranger she can only be turned on by Jewish cowboys, he then introduces himself as Broncho Goldstein. Now, you may think Jewish cowboys are a rarity but in actual fact there’s only one and his name is Kinky Friedman. Not only is he a famous country star having shared stages with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson but he’s also a well-known novelist, journalist and politician, having run for Governor of Texas. It’s his music that he’ll be bringing to Bogen F on Friday, and while he plays those deep country cuts as good as anyone, he also lets his acerbic humour have full flight with songs like ‘They Ain’t Makin’ Jews like Jesus Anymore’.

If you’ve ever travelled to pretty much anywhere in the world, one of the joys is sampling the food available in that country, but if you want to get a real local flavour then you need to sample the food sold by street vendors. It may not be five-star cuisine but nothing beats eating a tasty, juicy something sitting on the roadside watching a strange world go by. Although Zurich has, let’s call it, a limited street food scene, the Street Food Festival being held at Puls 5 this weekend hopes to make up for it. They’ll have an international array of trucks and stalls selling everything from tacos and ceviche to fish’n’chips and oysters.

If anyone predicted the essence of the Internet age and social media the best, it was Andy Warhol with his ‘Everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes’ quote. Swiss painter and graffiti artist Ata Bozaci has used this as inspiration for his new exhibition, Beautiful Facebook - Fifteen Seconds of Fame. Taking portraits from Facebook, perhaps the greatest stage for our moment in the spotlight, he has used his unique art style to enlarge and digitalise them, removing them from the context of a social media profile and placing them on a gallery wall. The exhibition will be moving onto Basel and Bern but opens in Zurich on Saturday at The Trace Gallery.

While Mumford and Sons have been sucking up all the oxygen of the folk-pop scene, there have been a few other bands waiting in the undergrowth, mammal-like, for the Mumfordosaurus to become extinct. One of these is Bear’s Den, from the UK, who are also partial to a passing banjo here and there but have a much deeper melancholy and drama to their sound and bring yearning that Bon Iver may even be jealous of. They play at Mascotte on Saturday night.

I know Tuesday’s aren’t the biggest draw for a night out in Zurich but if you’re in the mood for a little live music and cheese – strange I know, but stay with me - then get yourself down to the Duda Cafebar, upstairs from Cabaret Voltaire, for their Cheesesticks Club. Every Tuesday they have a live local band, with the type of music being played a surprise but often blues, jazz or rock. As well as the music, they’ll also be laying on a cheese buffet for you to nibble on between sips of your favourite beverage. All of this can be yours with free entry to the bar but one franc added to the drinks. As Granny Orp used to say, come for the music but stay for the cheese. Wise words indeed.

A few weeks ago, five guys opened the restaurant «Stubä» (Swiss for living room) at Brauerstrasse in Kreis 4. Their speciality: The classic steak sandwich. The team tested different methods to make the meat very tender, and I can tell you: they succeeded. The rib-eye melts in your mouth, the spicing is perfect and the fresh bread rounds up a tasty meal. They will also take part at the street food festival at Puls 5 this weekend if you'd like to try it for yourself. Additionally, the bar team knows how to pour a mean drink and if you ask nicely they even mix your own personal favourite.

Next to training my arms with a pint and my legs by hopping around at a concert, I rarely manage to do anything to stay fit. I don't fancy jogging or biking by myself when the wind blows cold in my face. So I decided to get a sports partner. If you feel the same, here are some options. Bootcamper: Train in a group with bootcamper, there are training groups all around town that you can join whenever you like. City Council: The city's sports department just set up a new page where people can post classifieds for a training partner. Have a look if someone is looking for you. Or place one yourself.

The flu is still lurking over Switzerland. To stay healthy you should eat a lot of vegetables. But as it’s too cold to head to the market, I found farmy.ch. The shop isn’t brand new but I just didn’t find the time yet to tell you about it. There you can order fruits, vegetables, flowers, bread and a lot of  goods all self-made and regionally produced.
