The little community of shops and restaurants that live beneath the arches at Im Viadukt have got together this Friday to organise another one of their Viadukt Nights for us. This year they seem to have gone all out for variety. There’s a distinctly English flavour coming from the British Cheese Centre and The Pie Shop serving pies, pints and Pimms. The Markthalle and surrounding stalls will serve everything from tapas to teriyaki, via Gaucho grills and Absinthe buses. There’ll also be a bartender show, tango and salsa dancing, a light and projection show as well as a tombola to win Fr. 1,000., and much more (as they say). And if that wasn’t enough for you restless Ronsters, they’ll have plenty of bands and djs playing live in and around the shops.

Silence may be golden but in the Theater Neumarkt show, Joyful Noise in the Dark, sound is definitely black. As you walk into the theatre space, two things will engulf you: firstly, complete and utter darkness and, secondly, a 3-D Dolby sound experience of 12 musicians playing electronic and acoustic instruments. All points of reference will be erased as you float through a soundscape of musical vibrations. I would suggest any of your preferred mind-altering substances (coffee, for example) be taken only in moderation beforehand.
Saturday 3 shows at 9, 10 and 11 pm, Theater Neumarkt

Just like a new lover, Amboss Rampe are hoping that you’re going to spend all day and all of the night with them this Saturday. From 10 am, they’ll have their Garage Flohmi, a flea market/garage sale type thing, which will go on, as they say themselves, until they sell out or get bored. You’ll be accompanied on your shopping spree by a soundtrack from GDS.FM, and food and drink from the Sasou juice bar. In the evening, they’ll be unleashing another volume of the Weder Fisch No Vogel party nights. Djs Markus Steinhauser, Dejan & Aftergrauer and John Lemon will be providing the, usually, pretty eclectic musical selections. Now all Amboss Rampe need to know is will you still love them tomorrow?

It’s Die Lange Nacht Der Zürcher Museen (Long Night of the Zurich Museums) this Saturday, when 46 of the city’s museums will be keeping their doors open throughout the night and, in some cases, putting on some special events. With a combined ticket for Fr. 25 you’ll get admission to all the museums, free rides on the city’s busses and trams, use the MS Sentosa boat to get around the lake to the museums and free bike hire. One event that caught my eye was at the Gasthaus Zum Bären, where the Burnout exhibition allows you to live like one of the rich elite, by attending a Money Laundering Workshop, printing your own cash, washing it and send to friends. The artists on Japan’s Flau record label sound as delicate and gentle as a cherry-blossom trembling in the spring breeze. Over the last few years Flau has grown into one of Japan’s most important labels by signing international artists who have a certain aesthetic. Whether it be field recordings, electronica or more traditional instrumentation, their artist all sound good listened to on headphones on a sunny Sunday afternoon. This Sunday, two of Flau’s Japanese artists will be performing live at Perla-Mode at the invitation of Friction. Aus, is an audiovisual experimental filmmaker, while Cuushe will be playing her gently psychedelic dream pop. Both will lull you into cosy daydreams. Free entry.

With a name like Woods, and playing folk music of the Americana kind, there’s only one place this band could have hailed from – Brooklyn, of course! They may be on their seventh album by now but it seems as if they’ve decided to move out of the shadows and, with a nod to Wilco and Iron & Wine, have sprinkled a little pop-dust throughout their latest offerings. They’ll be playing live at El Lokal on Monday evening. After a break for showing the, unfortunately timed, Swiss/England Euro2016 qualifying match, the evening’s musical entertainment will continue with Scott H Biram, the punk-rocking, folk-stomping, hillbilly-bopping, hell-raising one-man band from Texas.

Si o No is an institution in Zurich, I can’t remember a time, when it hasn’t been around. Whenever I'm there I'm surprised how little it has changed over the years. And how contemporary it still feels. Maybe they add slight changes which I don't notice. Their hangover breakfast at least hasn’t changed, that I know for sure. Every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am, they serve: Tortilla, baked beans, coffee and Bloody Marys. Sounds like a Spanish version of a fried breakfast.

Last weekend, Vidaukt received a new tenant: Tarzan. The label known for their easy-going street wear and wearable designs is opening another branch in the heart of Kreis 5. My favourite item from the Basel brand are their hoodies, i've never found a better fitting and more comfortable one than theirs. The new flag ship store also functions as a stage for street artists: Every few weeks another artist gets to design a wall to his or her liking, so I’ll make sure to stop by regularly.

Dear Ronsters, instead of the usual good to know, where I share some insights about our beloved city, I’ll take you out of town to Lucerne. I also have a newsletter their and my friends just showed my some highlights last weekend, which I want to share with you. So get ready for Tour de Lucerne à la Ron. Seebadi: The recently refurbished pool area at the lake is also worth a visit if you’re not tempted to go swimming. Get a drink at the bar, head to the upper floor, enjoy the fantastic view over Lake Lucerne and watch the sun set. Beautiful! St. Magdalena: If you’re looking for a bite to eat, head to St. Magdalena. A friendly, slightly alternative place with great local food, down to earth staff in the middle of the old town. Tasty! Kafi Schnaps: Coffee with Schnaps is a Lucerne speciality. Don’t make the mistake in calling it Kafi Luz or you’ll easily be recognised as a visitor. The place to go is Metzgerhalle, especially if it’s warm enough to sit in their beer garden. Ask for popcorn to go with it. Dangerous! Neubad: Catch a concert at Neubad. It used to be an indoor swimming pool but is currently used for ateliers, concerts and exhibitions. This Friday, the venue celebrates its first birthday with music and drinks. The concerts are held within the former pool. Amazing!

Whenever I’m out and about I discover new spots in town. But I just found out that I can do that from home as well. It’s not quite the same, of course, but the webcams of the city council offer me overviews and sights I haven’t come across before. There are four perspectives to choose from: «Sächseläutenplatz», «Uetliberg», «Stadthaus» and «Zurich West». The last you can use to check out, how busy Letten is on a sunny day.
