At the beginning of the summer, Ron Orp launched the Print Your Skillz Contest together with the Street Files Team. A few months later, you all voted on your favorite design for the first Ron Orp t-shirt. And the winner is: Olivier Magnin with his typographical interpretation of our Urban Signs Phototrip. However, we can only produce the shirt, if at least five readers per city support the project on 100-days.net. Jazznojazz is the 4 day international music festival that comes to town each year, taking over a few venues in town with 18 concerts in total, and despite its jazzy focused name, isn’t all about jazz. In fact the name is quite accurate if you read it directly - they have bands playing jazz but they also have bands playing no jazz (easy really), in this case blues, soul and fusion. On Friday, electro trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer and his band play their dramatic and emotional music, ricocheting between thunderous walls of sound and contemplative melancholia.  Lunchtime at work and winter can be a tricky combination. Gone are the halcyon days of buying your lunch and taking it to some sun-drenched piece of city grass and wishing you never had to return to the office. Well, Club Vior may have come up with an alternative way to leave your office, eat your lunch, stay warm and have some fun thrown in. For 2 hours this Friday, Lunch Beat invites you to dance your lunchtime away with a dj set, a take away meal, free water and a group of like minded people all looking at themselves, smiling and thinking, ‘It’s Friday lunchtime and i’m dancing in a club!’

The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble have decided to just ignore the defining features of modern dance music – computers and drum machines, and have created acoustic dance music instead. Using only classical and acoustic instrumentation, this trio make the most unique sound but still keep the music focused on the dance floor. It’s just like going to a club where Beethoven is djing. And I’m sure we’ve all imagined that before.

Sometimes you just need to open yourself up to new experiences, even if you’re not sure what’s going to happen and even if that experience is based around the Mexican Day of the Dead. What I’m really saying is I don’t have much of an idea what’s going to happen at this party (the organisers have left it a mystery on purpose) but anything that embraces diverse cultures, teases me with a cool flyer and then parties on the dead’s own day is alright by me.

Without further ado, the makers of Plein Soleil decided to organize a day party at Hive and invited Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves from Visionquest. The two djs/producers, originally from Detroit, live somewhere between Berlin and London at present. And they’re both known to be in the center of the newish music movement that moves elegantly between r’n’b bearing slow-motion-songs and grooving tech house. It will be easy as Sunday mornings should be with Benja & Reto Ardour as well as Dejan who’ll top off the day.

Last week, the annual Swiss Design Awards were held, giving a hearty pat on the back to both young and established Swiss designers. Now, all the winner’s collections have been gathered together at an exhibition held at Museum Bellerive. The winning designs range across many areas from photography and graphic design to photography and products, and are a perfect way to gauge the current ideas and visions among the cutting edge of Swiss designers.

Those Wicked Hours had a release party for their new cd a few weeks ago and are now the band of the month at La Catrina. They call their sound ‘new vintage electro’, which seems to suit these two brothers from Zurich perfectly. Their music is certainly of the now but is bathed in a retro light that adds warmness to the music. If these guys go from cd release to band of the month in the space of a few weeks, you had better catch them while you still can.

TV stations will cover the election in detail but if you would like to watch the CNN coverage on big screen and to discuss the outcome, then join the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce for their Presidential Elections Breakfast at Widder Hotel on Wednesday morning.

Last Sunday, I woke up and the world was white. On Monday the white world was illuminated by sunshine and my heart ached to head up to the mountains with my skis or snowboard under my arm. Unfortunately, most slopes are still closed but the ski resorts will open soon. If you’re tempted as well, from today you’ll find a list of all snow’n’rail offers on the SBB website. Singer/songwriter Eddi Front from Brooklyn NY just released her first disc and has already become flavor of the month in various music blogs and websites. Currently there only three songs to listen to on Soundcloud but her debut album should be available from 5th November, with music like a collage of sounds and a soft voice that takes you to a dream wonderland.
