If you’re an artist, musician or performer who thinks the world would be a better place if it knew about your talent but those stupid venues and galleries just won't open their doors to you and allow you to shine? Well, Starkart have answered your prayers again. Last years event was such a success, they’re doing another! For the whole of March they are holding an exhibition called Mir Händs Nötig that is un-curated, un-censored and un-deniably yours. They have 250qm of space, so just bring your work along, put it where you want and wait for the world to gasp in amazement. They also have open-mics for musicians and performers.

The International Comedy Club continues to be the catapult from which English and American comedy is shot, normally at high and dangerous speeds, straight into the minds of a humour hungry Zurich crowd. This weeks mirth-missiles are Stuart Goldsmith, whose story-telling skills and warm personal style make him a joy to listen to, while Sally-Anne Hayward, has a more in-your-face style, that probably helped her control the crowds when comparing at the Glastonbury Festival. See them both at Mascotte this Friday.

The founder of Blickfang once told me that Zurich has the highest density of designers. Several exhibitions for fashion, furniture and design seemed to prove that. But the visual art, the graphic designers, were mostly missing at these events. Grafik12 closes this gap with a colourful exhibition at Maag Halle. 80 graphic designers, illustrators, typographers and artists present their favourite work from the last 12 month. If you don’t walk around town with your eyes closed, I’m sure you recognize one or the other of the posters.

He came to Zurich last year as warm-up for the Kravitz, but now he’s back and has a headline show all his own. Raphael Saadiq doesn’t try to recreate the sound of 60’s soul and funk, he actually creates new soul music that, despite being 50 years out-of-time, is as authentic as any original Sam Cooke or Sly Stone record.   He plays at X-tra this Saturday, and with his barnstorming band in tow you can expect a soul revival show for the 21^st century.

I totally like Total Bar and this Sunday they bring Stanley Brinks & Clemence Freschrad to Zurich, which makes me like them even more. The German band is not an insider tip anymore but their just a live concert brings across the simple melancholy which characterizes classic folk. Stanley Brinks presents the poetic texts with the right amount of gloom and a wink. Just right for a Sunday evening.

The first time I saw Wilco play live was at a free concert in New York’s Central Park during a long hot hazy summer, and ever since then they’ve always had a special place in my heart. They may have been there at the birth of alt-country but their music ricochets between rock, folk, ballad, punk and plain old freak-out. Singer/songwriter Jeff Tweedy has led his band through 17 years of musical experimentation so far, and judging by their latest album released in 2011, is still looking for ways to get under our skin. They play at Volkshaus next Wednesday.

Kulturmarkt im Zwinglihaus has a new bar – Machbar. Just a few weeks ago the construction work was finish and the scaffolding removed. It’s open every Thursday from 5.30 pm and every week something else takes place: party, reading, concert, board games, theatre, quizzes and of course food and drinks. Overall a very nice place for an after work beer and a chat. In my opinion, there are few places in Zurich, where it’s so easy to small talk to strangers and make new acquaintances. And if you have an idea for a Thursday programme, let the staff know.

This Saturday, presidential elections take place in Russia. I’ve travelled through the country before and will stay tuned to a news channel – with some vodka – to hear what’s going on. Roughly 900 Russians live in town but it seems like everyone is doing their own thing. So this is what you need for your Russian evening. Media: If you’re not Russian but if you're interested in reading up on Russia's political situation in Swiss Media have a look at Swissinfo. If you’re Russian, you probably know it all, otherwise check out Russkaja Schweizarja, the only Russian magazine in Switzerland - in Russian. Books in Russian or about Russia you’ll find at Pinkrus Bookshop in the heart of the city. Food: The Cocktail-Bar at Enge serves hand-made Russian Ravioli: Pelmeni and Warenik. At Seefeld you find a Russian speciality shop: Tsarina. Poushe in Kreis 3 isn’t exclusively Russian but bakes some of their strudel according to Russian recipes as well some of the salads.

The project Bivouac put up its tents in New York for a few weeks. And I mean literally.  Bivouac is like a pop up campground on the roof of a skyscraper. Unfortunately, they already closed down - well it’s getting cold – but they’re planning to set up in another city. Maybe it’s even going to be on a roof in Zurich.

The inhabitants of the city Portland are taken by the hand to get them on the bike. For a small fee, project Pedal Portland helps potential cyclist select the right bike, with repair works as well as finding the ideal way to ride to work by bike. If I wasn’t already an enthusiastic cyclist, they’d have got me hooked by now.
