Zero points

The term sustainability is omnipresent nowadays. Therefore the young artists of Nullpunkt looked at the question “What does a good and sustainable life consist of?” and tried to come up with an explanation. It’s unclear if there’s really an answer. But each artist has an interpretation, shown through paintings, literature, photography, illustration, dance or theatre. The exhibition of these works takes place at ewz-Unterwerk Selnau from today.
1-10 September, ewz-Unterwerk Selnau
Zero patience

If you’re looking at good value for money when it comes to choosing a night out and you also have a little ADHD, Superzero has something for you. For 5 francs entry, you’ll get to see a bunch of live acts and djs playing across the musical spectrum from hip-hop to indie rock, dubstep to house. Djs and bands like Andaloop, Shriduna and Raphallus will do their best to entertain, and if you get bored of one type of music, another one will be along in a moment.
Friday 11 pm, Superzero
Wild nightlife

This Saturday is the return of Long Night of the Museums, your chance to legally sneak around most of Zurich’s best museums throughout the night. At Kunsthaus they are giving you something a little extra. In the Biber lounge you can experience a sound installation by Albert Hofmann Soundsystem followed by an after party with electro djs Sabaka and Acid Pauli.  In keeping with the theme of this year’s Long Night of all things ‘wild’, a group of Zurich’s best chefs will be preparing a buffet of exotic and wild plants and creatures for you to eat. Don’t worry, i’m sure there’s nothing endangered on the menu!
Saturday 7 pm, Kunsthaus
Street fighter

In these days of an ever-increasing, distant, electronic society it’s rare that we get a chance to stand up, face to face, amongst the dust and sweat, and prove ourselves to be the streetwise ninjas that we know we are. Well, the Züri-Open is your chance. Grab a partner, a racket and ball and enter the Ping-Pong Doubles Tournament at Josefwiese. For a 40 franc per team entrance fee you’ll get a chance of prizes, a bbq, free beer but more important than all this – your chance to prove your worth on the mean streets of ping-pong playing Zurich.
Saturday 11 am, Josefwiese
I want asylum

Audioasyl have set up home at Exil this Saturday, with a line-up that will rock, sooth then seduce you.  First up are the Black Diamond Heavies, a punk-rocking blues band, from Tennessee, that don’t take prisoners, dead or alive.  Next are Dollar Mango, who’ll sonically massage you with their chille out electronic jazz soundscapes and finally, Loulou Bonbon, a burlesque dancer who’ll just tease you into submission. All three acts are supported and surrounded by a selection of fine djs including dj Sarna and Anna Air.
Saturday 11 pm, Exil

Pub quiz

This Monday the traditional music guessing night takes place at Bar Rossi. They play a song, and the person who knows the name of the band first, wins a point. Whoever collects the most points by the end of the night wins a bottle of prosecco and the respect of the audience. Christian from Musikzimmer will be your host and DJ, and responsible for selecting songs from the last six decades.
Monday 9 pm, Bar Rossi, Sihlhallenstrasse 3
Good to know

Once again, the citizens of Zurich are asked to cast their vote. They’re two topics which could interest (and affect) you, so I thought I give you a quick overview. This time it’s – amongst a few other topics – about the relevance of pedestrians and cyclist in the current city planning. The initiative requests that public transport, cycling and walking should increase by 10 percent – in contrast to motorized ways of transportation – over the next ten years. The city council doesn’t believe that’s possible. Therefore it comes to the ballot. The second point concerns housing. Moving to Zurich, you most likely experienced yourself, that there isn’t much choice and the leftovers are expensive. This weekend, Zurich’s citizens have to decide if they’re willing to spend approximately 30 millions on subsidised housing. So let’s see what the people have to say.
Comeback

During the summer, restaurant Elisaburg moved its venue temporarily to the Zeughaushof. As the days are getting shorter and the nights colder, they’re returning to their locale this week. From today (well, actually they’re back since yesterday, but as you can’t go yesterday…) you’ll find them at Elisabethenstrasse 3, awaiting you with a fresh and seasonal cuisine.
Elisaburg: Wednesday to Saturday from 5.30 pm
Laughter for all

A few weeks ago I subscribed to spart, a free weekly art newsletter. Since then I receive each week an email from spiced art with a picture that makes me laugh. You can subscribe on their website for a piece of “free, unsolicited art for the masses”.
Ron’s favourite song

White-boy indie-rock can all start to sound the same after a little while but Money by The Drums just won’t get out of my head this week. Enjoy
