Ron Orp's Community Award
Finally we know the winner of the Ron Orp's Community Awards from ewz selection. It’s the same person who also won the Fine Art Awards: The Umbrella Kid. His work called The Sound Body shows skaters from special perspectives with accentuated white-black contrasts. In the analogue photos he experimented with different light settings and surface structures. And I’m finally allowed to say: He was also my favourite! The Umbrella Kid thanks all of you for your votes.

80 days in Saint Germain

For 80 days, Neumarkt theatre played host at St Germain and the excessive parties had to make room for the arts. Over that period, Alexis Saile created a poster for each piece that was shown in the former party temple. These and more of his works are displayed in the club for three days starting this Thursday.
Thursday 5 to 8 pm, Saint Germain, Bahnhofstrasse 66, entry from Rennweg
Grow up!

I love a good coming-of-age movie. Harold and Maude is one of my favourite films, and now comes Submarine to Riff Raff, a comedic tale of youthful struggles set in the 80s. The film is the debut of English director Richard Ayoade and follows 15-year-old Oliver Tate in his two big ambitions: to save his parents marriage and to lose his virginity before his next birthday. Submarine is quirky, funny and heartfelt. And also like Harold and Maude one artist has written the whole soundtrack, in this case it’s Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys fame. I have 2x2 tickets to give away to anyone looking for a treat. E-mail me.
From Thursday, Riff Raff
Gessnerallee is dancing

Usually you’ll only hear the drumming base, when standing outside of Stall6. But over the two days you’ll get to hear the whole sound as well, because the stage moves outside. On it stand Saalschutz and Kalabrese on Thursday and on Friday the Fonxionaires and the djs Carlo Cannone & Robby Naish. The final of this series also marks the opening of the Zürcher Festspiele. For that the music moves indoors again on Saturday with My Heart belongs to Cecilia Winter, Devotchka, the Sternen and the Sick Girls.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 5 pm, Gessnerallee
Garden party

Like a secret garden in the middle of the city, Zeughaushof is a great place to hide away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. Now Clube Social are organising a daily summer garden party for you to enjoy a few drinks, listen to some great sounds and mix with people who also like the idea that summertime is best enjoyed outside, preferably in a garden with a party. The sun is king, so any sign of rain and you better find somewhere else to get entertained.
Friday 5 pm, Zeughaushof
Sneaker freaker

Few items of clothing bring about as much passion as a pair of box fresh sneakers. Once the 70s New York hip-hop fraternity had co-opted them from the sporting world, the humble sneaker was set on the path to fashion, fame and fetishization. The Sneakerness event, now in it’s 4th year, is set up as a temple to all things sneaker. All vintages, colours and types of sneaker are here to be enjoyed, bought and sold, as well as musical performances and street-art corners for those who need, at least a little, balance in their lives away from sneakers.
Saturday, 12 pm, Stage One, Elias-Canetti-Strasse 7, Oerlikon
Frappuccino folk

Café Henrici is a great, if busy, coffee house in the Niederdorf and, like all great coffee houses should, it often puts on musical acts to perform live. Next Tuesday it's the turn of More Eats and Jones Davenport. Both are from the lo-fi, acoustic school of folk and are the perfect accompaniment to help you drift away with your dark roasted, creamy choca-mocha. Hmmm, I'll see you there.
Tuesday 8 pm, Café Henrici, Niederdorfstrasse 1

Good to know
The best way to get around town is by bike. Therefore I’m sharing a few tips on how to get your perfect wheel. If you’re interested in buying a new bike there is something for every kind of biker. City cruisers should check out Zweirad at Anwandstrasse 57. Sporty individuals will find their bike at Stilrad at Viaduktstrasse 87. Urban bikers go to Gorilla at Weinbergstrasse 25. If you also bike in the woods, visit Biroma at Leonhardstrasse 11. Those who prefer quality over quantity will like Wheelhouse at Bertastrasse 18. Lazy Züriberg inhabitants get lucky at Stromer at Badenerstrasse 134. And racers will feel at home at Velo Atelier at  Kornhausstrasse 21. If you’re budget is a bit tight or if you fancy a retro bike, check out one of the second hand bike markets at Helvetiaplatz: 9 July, 13 August, and 24 September. If you have guests or don’t want your own bike, you can also rent.  All year round, you can rent a bike at the main station at Velostation Nord or at Velostation Süd. From April until the end of October you can also borrow bikes for free with Züri rollt. They’re for free but you’ll have to return them within the same day. Their stalls are at: Globus City, Lintheschergasse;  Bürkliplatz, Stadthausquai 1; Bahnhof Enge, Gutenbergstr. 1.
Historic travel

There is a solution for all of you who hate sitting about in hotel complexes and reading the newspaper rather than finding out up close what’s happening in the world - Political Tours. They organize group tours or tailored routes to sights that have a political or contemporary historical relevance.
