Zurich (EN) : Zurich, 28.10.10: Jazz days, fashion days & many happy birthdays!

Dear friends,

Happy Birthday! This week is full of anniversaries and birthdays. I wish Longstreet, Zukunft and Hiltl all the best for the years to come. Of course I also congratulate all of you whose birthday falls into this week.
Give my love to the city, Ron

Jumping jazz

Gessnerallee turns itself into Bourbon Street over the next four days, as the Jazznojazz festival returns. A total of 18 concerts will be held with jazz, soul, funk, blues and Latin music played by bands like The Crusaders, Max Herre, Rusconi and Christian Scott. For those who aren’t sure if this music suits their ears, evening tickets for 10 francs are also available for testing. I can offer you 2x2 tix for a concert of your choice - except for Tower of Power (sold out).

Wednesday to Saturday, Gessnerallee

Birthday bar

Longstreet Bar seems to have been part of my evening’s activities forever, but this weekend it is celebrating its fifth birthday.  To help this celebration upgrade to a raging party Kahn and Jessie Evans will be dropping in from Berlin to play live, and djs Tom Elvis, Knob and CNDR will make sure this anniversary is long remembered. Longstreet are saying that 5 is the natural number between 4 and sex. I’m not sure what they mean but I’m intrigued, and since when has logic been required for a party?
Friday and Saturday, 10 pm, Longstreet Bar

Roll over Beethoven

A culture clash will always produce something new, and if done right, something interesting too. TonhalleLATE is such an event combining classic and electro. The Tonhalle Orchestra will play works by classical composers, while before and after djs invite the audience to a disco where the foyer and entrance hall are transformed into dance floor and chill-out lounge with bar.
I have 2x2 tix to give away.

All aboard

Train are a pop-rock band from the States currently touring their new album from which you’ve probably heard ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ playing all over your radio. They play Kaufleuten this Saturday, and are supported by Blush, who also have a new album out, with the release party in Basel this weekend. If the USA and, at least for us Zurich types, Basel is too far to go, then this is a perfect chance to see two great bands together.
Saturday 7 pm, Kaufleuten

Back to the future

It’s been five years, since Zukunft opened its doors, today to be exact. To be honest, I would never have guessed that it’s been so long. It seems like yesterday. Zukunft turns 5 and celebrates with 5 days full of tunes from Tuesday to Sunday. Starting on Tuesday at Bar3000, with a vernissage of the new designer of the month’s programme and the finissage of the former designer.
Tuesday 9 pm, Zukunft and Bar3000

Fashionable days

From Wednesday to Sunday, Zurich is all about fashion. The Fashion Days take place from Wednesday to Sunday, during which the Swiss Textile Award and the Anabelle Fashion award will be given. So, if you want to see the latest trends, catch some heels and a little dress and head over to Puls 5.
Wednesday to Sunday, Puls 5

Eating

It’s been about three weeks since the bar Dini Mueter (yes, it really means your mother) opened its doors. The place just at the beginning of Langstrasse (looking from Badenerstrasse) is small but cosy and offers comfort food. You can also bring them your mom’s best recipe and if they like it, it’ll be a special for a month. The venue also offers a nice selection of breakfast, including porridge!

Flashmob Deluxe

Improv Everywhere has performed over 100 guerrilla actions in New York within the last nine years. But their newest one is better than all the others combined. Over 3000 people downloaded an mp3 file and then followed the instructions at the same time. Manhattan suddenly became a rather weird place... Watch

Kerry Skarbakkas is a visual artist working in photography and video. His passion is the movement. Kerry's latest project is about falling and flying. If you want to have a look at the photos click here, if you want to get to know more about the thoughts behind the project, read here.
