Hi Gast,
you have:
Future shock

In the future, they told us, we would be flying on private jet packs, eating pill meals and wearing attractive aluminium trousers. What they failed to mention were the buildings that would morph and change shape as if alive.  The Shapeshift exhibition at Starkart shows us this possible architectural future, and how new materials can be harnessed to change the cityscapes around us. As long as i can recognise the Ron cave after a night out, this sounds very cool to me.
Thursday/Friday 5 – 7 pm, Saturday 2 – 7 pm, Starkart Exhibitions

Yee-ha

Yes, there are cowboys in Switzerland. Living in the country to the south, under palm trees, among swaying chestnut woods, somewhere near the Italian border - in short, in Lugano. And of course, they also play magic music: The Lonesome Southern Comfort Company produce wonderful country and folk songs and have decided to saddle their horses and head North to entertain us city folk.
Thursday 9 pm, La Catrina

Slave to the fashion

When fashion and art collide things often get interesting. Fashion Slave has teamed up with the always excellent Daniel Bollinger, for an exhibition showing their 2011 collection that they are calling Mystical Revolution. As a kick-off to the exhibition Fashion Slave have also organised a pre-party with live music from La Chatte , dj Tatu from London and a couple of great local djs, Julian and Fuchs.
Party - Friday 11 pm, Cabaret Club
Exhibition - Saturday 10 am – 9 October

In a happy mood

After Rote Fabrik last week, it’s time for another anniversary. This week it’s Moods, who are celebrating 10 years at Schiffbau with a little thing they’re calling Schiffbaufest. Some of the artists, both local and international, who have played at Moods over the years, will be returning to play at this mini-festival.  As you would expext the line-up is looking pretty diverse and interesting and should make this birthday a very happy one.
Saturday 7 pm, Moods

Jumping junip

José Gonzalez was initially in a band, he then became a fantastic (accidental) solo artist, but never forgot the guys he left behind. Now, like the fabled prodigal son, he has returned, they have recorded their delayed first album and are touring. Junip has José on vocals but a much richer sound with the band backing him. They play one of their first shows at Exil.
Tuesday 7:30 pm, Exil

Penalty kicking

It looks like any restaurant bar from the outside but Penalty Bar one of the best football bars in town. They show a lot of games and you get to see former and current football stars from both Zurich clubs. I also like it over lunch, especially the local specialty Züri Gschnetzeltes with hashbrown where I usually get to rub shoulders with Bernhard Russi (ski hero in my youth).

Good to know

City view: sometimes, it's just nice to cast an eye over the city in which you live - so here are the best areas for a bird's-eye view. Polyterrasse: This classic - in front of the main building of the ETH - has been renovated but the perfect view remains the same. Jules Verne bar: Another classic - take the lift to the top, put a cocktail in your hand and drink-in the panoramic view. Grossmünster: The typical tourist trap and a lot of stairs to climb. Freitag-Tower: The nu-tourist spot. Only, the smell of plastic is a bit off-putting! Loorenkopf wooden tower: It's 33 meters high, in the forest on the Adlisberg. Oerlikerturm: Rise up to 35 metres in the middle of the new Oerlikon district. And soon, of course, Zurich’s Prime Tower.

Do you have a road popper?

When I was in OZ, I loved my Mick Fanning reef sandals with built in bottle opener. Of course I took them back home but the summers in Zurich... you know. But now I've found another great product with built in bottle opener - for my bike. On the website it says that the Road Popper is not intended for alcoholic beverages, but we can probably ignore that.

Interview project

For 70 days a film crew, supervised by David Lynch, travelled all across the USA. On their way they interviewed 121 people who agreed on telling a little about their lives. Whether it is in a supermarket car park, a shabby pub or a forgotten town in the middle of nowhere, everybody has something interesting to tell; this is the Interview Project.
