Zurich (EN) : Zurich 29.7.10: Summer break, firework & urban festival

Dear friends,

I’m taking a summer break, so you won’t receive any newsletters from me in August. Though i’ll be back briefly for Streetparade and let you know about some selected parties beforehand. I’m most likely going to Seebad Enge, my all time favourite. And for one of you, i have a pair of tickets to give away for that party. So if you’d like to see your name on the guest list, e-mail me.
Give my love to the city, Ron

Hi Gast,
you have:
Blues buzz

Each year Stadtsommer sets out to find the best in Zurichs musical talent. Starting with several hundred hopeful applications and ending with 6 fantastic acts. This years line-up includes Fai Baba, who will be playing his magical, mystical blues at the Schützareal. As with all the Stadtsommer shows the artist has chosen their favourite place to play in Zurich, which adds an extra personal touch to the whole thing.
Thursday 8 pm, Schützareal

Local hero

Tobias Preisig is another Stadtsommer artist performing this year. He is a jazz violinist who, with his accompanying quartet, manages to evoke many emotions from melancholy to elation with their playing. Whilst jazz may not be everyones favourite, there is something about that sound and summer that just work. Stadtsommer 2010 is on until 7th August and is worth checking out for the other local talents on offer.
Friday 9 pm, Helsinki Klub

Urban hymns

The UrbanFestival is exactly that; a regular open-air transplanted into the middle of the city. All of the positives of festival going with none of the negatives. Two big names are headlining the festival – Xavier Nadoo and 2RaumWohnung – and many of my favourite bars and clubs also have organised parties in, and around, the venue.  If you haven’t had a chance to get to a festival yet this year, the festival has decided to come to you and i have 2 pairs of tickets to give away. Email me.
Saturday  3 pm, Turbinenplatz (Puls 5)

Dark bargains

The night market at Seebad Enge has a special constellation. Of course you get a night market for all your nocturnal treasure hunting needs, but you also get music played by Clovis and DanCampo, food prepared by the Seebad kitchen and, of course, a fantastic venue right on the lake. Any one of these things would be worth a visit, but all of them together is beyond temptation.
Saturday 8 pm, Seebad Enge

Lake party

On Saturday, Seerose hosts a party in spirit of the 1 August celebrations. Dress up and dance into the national day. That night, you’ll also find out if dj Dani König’s son Romeo inherited his dad’s talent for music. The event already starts in the afternoon and you’ll have a good view to see the fireworks all around the lake. Entry is for free until 6 pm.
Saturday 2 pm, Seerose

Midweek affair

Lee Everton worked as an assistant for Alicia Keys and produced Swiss acts such as Seven until he established himself as a singer/songwriter. His latest release became a hit in Japan and he’s playing at Kaufleuten this Tuesday together with the band The Scrucialists.
Tuesday 9 pm, Kaufleuten

Good to know

If you’re still up for some fireworks after Züri Fest here a selection of good view points for Sunday. Dolder: From the terrace of the fancy hotel you have almost a bird’s view over Zurich and the lake. Kirche Fluntern: From the square next to church Fluntern you have a great view over the city and the old town and the good thing, usually there hardly any people who could obscure your view. Rote Fabrik: The so called Goldküste generally sends the biggest rockets into the sky. From Ziegel oh Lac, the restaurant of Rote Fabrik, you’ll see it all.

Star Wars invasion

War has started: Princess Leia is taken hostage by the clone army and handed over to Darth Vader. The fights don’t take place on a planet far away but in the New York underground.
