Hallo Gast, du hast:
Comfy couch

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already time for Flausch Couch this Thursday at Maier’s. Drinks, music, nice people and tunes by Sobuth & Weiss, and light effects by van nutt.
Thursday 7 pm, Maier’s

Let’s trade

There is trading again in the old stock market. But this time, it’s digital trade between the virtual and the real (though I tend to think that stock trading is already borderline real...). Anyway, Tweakfest, the digital culture and lifestyle festival, is back at Alte Börse. But expect the digital avant-garde instead of brokers.
Friday & Saturday, Alte Börse

Dessous for the night

You’re looking for a unique bikini or swim suit? Lyn Lingerie presents her spring/summer collection this Saturday at her atelier. If you prefer to shop along stalls of various designers, head to Nachtmarkt afterwards. It’s held at Volkshaus this time with music by Max Bunt.
Saturday 11 am – 5 pm, Lyn Lingerie
Saturday 6 pm, Volkshaus

Rrooarr!

My close friends know that I have a soft spot for Northern Ireland, so I’m quite exited that the concert series This is Tigerr, organised by Just Because and Abart Club, brings General Fiasco from Belfast to Zurich’s Zukunft. Let’s hope the airplanes are able to fly!
I have two pairs of tickets to give away.

Sunday 8.30 pm, Zukunft

Pony lovers

This gig is not just for girls who love horses. The band New Young Pony Club from London combines indierock with electropop. In their latest release, which Abart Club presents at Hive this Monday, they stepped away from the rave scene but didn’t lose any of their energy. I have two pairs of tickets to give away.

Midweek affair

Her voice is described as a cross between Tina Turner, Lora Flores and Sarah Vaughan – sounds interesting. Buika, Spain’s latest export, sings at Kaufleuten this Tuesday, and it’s her only concert in Switzerland. If you’re interested in how flamenco mixes with hiphop elements, I have two pair of tickets to give away.

Good to know

Zurich’s got loads of parks (though many of them are a tad small) where you can lie on the grass and experience the joy of dolce fa niente. Bäckeranlage: This park, at Stauffacherstasse/Hohlstrasse, is the green lung of Kreis 4. It features large trees for shade, sunny spots on the grass and a restaurant. Botanical Garden: The old botanical garden is located at Selnaustrasse and offers peace and quiet, plus space to relax, in blooming surroundings. Irchelpark: This park, near the tram stop Milchbuck, surrounds the university campus and extends over a main road. It's spacious (for Zurich) and is also a great spot for a barbeque with its very pretty lake – complete with fish and ducks. Platzspitz: This green area next to the main station was once known as Switzerland’s “needle park”. However, nowadays you’ll find it’s a clean and pleasant spot, filled with trees and benches and an old band pavilion. The Zurich city page list all parks in an overview.

Eating

Last week I met some old friends for dinner and they chose Kerala. The Indian restaurant in Oerlikon (just next to tram stop Radiostudio) is the best Indian I’ve had in town so far. Best to ask the waiter to just bring you a mix of dishes so you can try everything.

Web

A few days in Japan, cut to a video. Fast, urban and colourful. If you’d like to see more of Japan after this short film, have a look at Ron’s Japan trip.
