Fall symphony
The sturZ Musik students of the Department of Music present the ultimate party for friends of the Zurich University of the Arts. A contemporary mix of funk, jazz, Balkan, and indie rock as interpreted by the freewheeling Freylax’ Orkestar, emotionally charged KEjNU, and soulful Frifusion.
Thursday 7.30 pm, Stall 6

Spin-cycle
Son of a Jimi Hendrix-loving father and a Beatles-obsessed mother, Luke Vibert comes by his eclectic musical style honestly. Calling himself a “DJ Shadow from Hackney,” the Cornwall native spins dub, trip hop, and electro at Club Zukunft.
Friday 12 am, Club Zukunft

Ghost story
FELD releases its second album “ghosts” in a rather mysterious location near Manegg station. In an update for many original ravers, there are directions on the website, including a phone number, in case you get lost. I’m intrigued, and excited to hear more from these experimental sound-masters and M4 Music Festival award-winners.
Saturday 7.30 pm, Allmendstrasse 170

Fashion frenzy
Celebrating a year in Zurich (and a new Kreis 5 location), Boutique Alsamendi Barcelona opens its doors on Saturday afternoon. Sample tasty apéros along with Alsamendi’s equally delicious autumn/winter collection. Also on Saturday, AdriNalina and 2. Schicht host a joint six-month anniversary party: “Bunt versus Uniform” features the best Brazilian fashion lines and accessories at AdriNalina, and 2. Schicht-owner Bettina Zweidler’s fashion-forward take on the uniform. With makeup artist XY, music by Sexomodular, and an apéro from 5 pm.
Saturday 12 pm-6 pm, Alsamendi / 5 pm-9 pm, AdriNalina and 2. Schicht

The lovely bones
Paul’s Boutique at Helsinkiklub features the smooth stylings of the Jazz Bones: Jean-Paul Brodbeck on piano, Claudio Strueby on drums, and Fabian Gisler on double bass, all of whom are accomplished artists in their own rights.
Tuesday 8.30 pm, Helsinkiklub

Movie night
The Film Festival may be over, but you can still treat yourself to a night out at any of my favourite movie theatres in the city: Riffraff, Arthouse Le Paris, Xenix, or Filmpodium. I’m especially keen on seeing the quirky and touching film Departures — an Academy Award-winner for Best Foreign Language Film, Departures is the story of an out-of-work cellist who finds work in the funeral industry.
Monday 6 pm and 9 pm, Arthouse Le Paris

Good to know
The forecast says rain this weekend, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying your Sunday. Some of my favourite rainy day destinations include the 11,000 square metre Masoala Rainforest at the Zurich Zoo. The real Masoala in Madagascar is one of the most biodiverse — and endangered — habitats on the planet, and the Zoo is part of a fundraising effort to protect the 4% of original forest that remains. If the rainforest leaves you feeling a bit sticky, try the ultra-relaxing Hamam spa at the Münstergasse Fitness Park. The Turkish bath, soft lighting, and elegant furnishings will help you get in touch with your senses, if the great outdoors are off-limits. When the weather does clear, a stroll in the Botanical Gardens will help you enjoy the beauty (not the bluster) of the season.

Web
Imagine ordering a salami sandwich...and then being served a Greek salad! At the Ogori Café in Kashiwa, Japan, that’s not a mistake —here you get what the person before you ordered, and the next person gets what you ordered. Irreverent fun or culinary chaos? Read about the experiment on Cabel’s Blog LOL.

Eating
We’re all trying to “eat local” these days, so what better way to stay fresh and wild than by enjoying the Venison Weeks at Caduff’s Wine Loft: for the whole month of October, Beat Caduff is hunting, and bringing his best meat, straight to your table. Restaurant Winzerhaus also has a delicious-looking seasonal menu, and if you want traditional Swiss fare in an elegant family-run restaurant, try Veltiner Keller.
