Cultural cavalcade

Feeling starved of a little cerebral (but social) stimulation? Nachtclub, a regular Thursday event at Theater Neumarkt, is a platform for intellectual exploration: mix music, talk, and text with a few cocktails, and you never know what might happen. Entrance is free.
Thursday 10 pm, Theater Neumarkt

Lost in music

If you’re nostalgic for the heady days of the 1960s (or just wish you were old enough to be nostalgic for that era), check out the Lost in Music party at Stall 6. The night features French music connoisseurs Serge, Jacques, and Brigitte & Co. and visuals by Blubbblubb. Tickets are CHF 15.
Friday 10 pm, Stall 6

One of a kind Christmas

Senior Design Factory , a collective that brings artists of all ages together through joint creative projects, hosts a Christmas market this Saturday. All the pieces on offer are handcrafted by members of the Senior Design Factory. If you’ve already finished your shopping, there’s still plenty of reason to stop by: homemade gingerbread and hot punch will be served.
Saturday 2-6pm, Senior Design Factory (Kalkbreitenstrasse 2)

Disco on ice

Channel your inner roller diva and hit the ice this Saturday at the Dolder’s Schlittschuh Disco. Take trams 3/8/15 to Römerhof, then head up the Dolderbahn to the mountain station. Don’t have skates? Rentals are only CHF 6. Don’t have rhythm? Music provided by DJ Muri and others.
Saturday 5 pm - 11 pm, Dolder

Collectors' paradise

Zurich’s Comics, Manga & Film Exchange at Volkshaus is the largest market of its kind in Switzerland, and the perfect place to find those first editions, figurines, posters, and knick-knacks for the comic-loving collector in your life. With prices ranging from 20 rappen to 2,000 francs, they’re really not kidding when they say “there’s something for everyone”.
Sunday 10 am - 5 pm, Volkshaus Zürich

Tarantino surf athems?

The Russian dj team Messer Chups mixes Pulp Fiction style with Hawaii 5-0 sounds at El Lokal on Monday. Not sure what to expect? Watch the video Hexe Chips to prepare. Fashion-wise, I recommend skinny ties for the gents, and retro-red lipstick for the ladies.
Monday 8 pm, El Lokal

Good to know

Whether you call him The Alpine Tornado or The Uri-bull, Swiss cyclist Bruno Risi can definitely be called a legend. The seven-time world champion and the two-time European champion hits the track at Sechstagerennen, a six-day bicycle event at Hallenstadion Zurich . Six-day races originated in Britain, and have since gained popularity in continental Europe. Although individuals originally competed alone (the winner being the cyclist who completed the most laps), the format now allows teams – usually of two riders each. The 24-hour rule has also been relaxed and, instead, most six-“day” races involve six nights of racing on indoor tracks. Even so, it’s still enough to make your head spin (pun intended!).

Filmfest

The Zurich Film Festival may be over (even if the Polanski controversy isn’t), but there’s still lots out there for cinephiles. Xenix hosts a Kate Winslet series, Riffraff plays Stascha Bader’s reggae exploration Rocksteady and Filmpodium shows Robert Altman’s American classic The Long Goodbye.
Various dates and times, Xenix, Riffraff, and Filmpodium

Web

Remember the days of mix tapes? So do the creators of Mix Tape Me , who have made a web application that looks and acts just like a desktop music player, but allows you to share mixes with your friends. Here’s some inspiration to get you splicing.
