Pin-up party
If you’re like me and love the retro style of pin-up girl glamour, check out the Pin-up Soirée at Seefeld Razzia. Featuring pin-up models Nicole Neufeld and Katia Cintja, this free event will also have dresses and hats from Stardust, Ranger Rose and HutArt for modern divas to try and buy. Even better, I have two calendars to give away. Mail me.
Thursday 8 pm, Seefeld Razzia

Designer gifts
‘Tis the season to wrack one’s brain for cool gift ideas, but inspiration abounds at BLICKFANG Zurich, the International Design Fair for Furniture, Fashion and Jewellery. 200 designers showcase everything from the innovative to the outlandish, and I’m especially interested in this year’s special Men’s Fashion Zone. After all, aren’t the best presents the ones you buy for yourself?
Friday to Sunday from 11 am, Kongresshalle

Turn the page
Swiss-Japanese electro pop duo Tim & Puma Mimi celebrate their fifth anniversary this year. Their new album “Turn the Page” is a kaleidoscopic work mixing different styles: here a Super Mario pico-pico tone, there a wooden flute, a trombone, even a traditional Japanese sanshin. They describe their sound as “Raw like sushi, sweet like chocolate!” I have two CDs to give away and two pairs of guest list spots for the release party at Exil. Mail me.
Friday 10 pm, Exil

Open-house artists
Raumsprung Interlokal gives you the opportunity to peek into artists’ studios all over Zurich’s left bank. Beginning on Friday with an opening ceremony at Cabaret Voltaire, the open house proper spans the weekend and covers all art forms from painting to photography to sculpture. Next week: the right bank.
Saturday 12 pm to 7 pm, Sunday 11 am to 5 pm, left bank of the Limmat

All things Christmas
Get a jump on the holidays by stocking up on supplies at The Salvation Army at Brocki Zurich’s Christmas sale. Tree ornaments, wrapping paper, candles...if you need it, they’ve got it, and all at reasonable prices.
Saturday 9 am to 4 pm, Brocki Hardbrücke

A Prince-ly night
Prince (the artist formerly known as an unpronounceable symbol) may have a quirky personality, but his musical talent has stood the test of time. Djs Robby Naish and Leeo spin a tribute night to the man from Minneapolis at Stall 6, playing Prince songs as well as music from those he inspired, including Jamie Lidell and Pharrell Williams.
Saturday 10 pm, Stall 6

Klez-mania
The Klezmatics are globally-renowned world music superstars...and the only klezmer band to win a Grammy award. They have taken their unique brand of Balkan rhythms and jazz/punk out of New York for their “Wonder Wheel 2009” tour, and they’ll be touching down in Zurich at Moods jazz club.
Sunday 7 pm, Schiffbau

Good to know
I’m trying to eat healthier these days, but the cooler weather makes me want to hunker down and enjoy some tasty comfort food. Luckily, I’ve found a place that will let me do both: Fine Box, a new take-away shop in the middle of Zurich’s business district. For a quick lunch, I like the spicy pumpkin soup, and for dessert, there’s a healthy parfait of acai yogurt, banana and guarana syrup. For those of us on the move (and who’s not?), you can customise your own Fine Food Box for any meal - make a lunch box for the office or a dinner box for a romantic meal at home. Everything comes in an easy-to-carry box or small bag, and service is friendly and speedy. Now that’s good to know!

Simply golden
Duke and the King hit El Lokal, playing music that Word magazine calls “Neil Young meets Marvin Gaye.” The glam-soul-folk quartet from New York are all on a world tour in support of their debut album, Nothing Gold Can Stay.
Tuesday 8 pm, El Lokal

Web
Usually it’s people who move from one city to another, not their hotel. In the case of the portable hotel Everland, however, that’s exactly what happens. A project by the artist team L/B that was developed for Expo.02, the one-room hotel has been to Yverdon, Burgdorf, the roof of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Leipzig and Paris, functioning as an art exhibit by day and a working hotel by night.
